My 2 cents...

6 months on L's - A good idea to take longer to get used to driving as pointed out in a previous post.

125 hours on L's - No probs here, thats less than a hour a day.

4 Demerits - Another good idea this will help teach the value of a licence.

1 person under 25 - I don't understand why this is in.

Night curfew - Can see the merits about learning to drive in the day before driving at night, but unfortunately it means you can't socialise at night without getting a lift, taxi or public transport, which has it's pro's and cons also.

V8's - I understand but disagree with this as some 4's and 6's are just as fast and powerful if not more these days and I never came to grief in my V8 on P's, but i did have some fun... :)

I have thought for some time that all drivers should attend a short course on Driver Safety on how to handle sticky situations and a basic First Aid Cert.

A V8 was one of the slowest cars I have ever owned. If they are gonna put restrictions on engines it should definately include the mighty rotary. Though my rego papers say they are a "2 cylinder"...

This might be one for Danny but I think "P" platers only have 4 demerit points to play with now for the 1st 2 years.

I have no problem with them being banned from driving V8's and I would like to see it extended to Turbos as well.

The young one's get into a group or groups and the next they are trying to out do one another and it's all fun until someone comes unstuck and is seriously hurt or killed which usually ends up with a funeral and generally someone going to Jail.

I am not saying every young one out there will get themselves into trouble that couldn't be further from the truth however it is mainly the young one's that do and statistics clearly show deaths and serious injuries are in the 17 to 20 age group.

I was going to the international airport the other night and was almost blown off the Tonkin Hwy by 2 "P" platers who's speed would have been at least 160 guessing 180 to 200 would be closer to the mark and one of them had no idea how to drive his line for bends was all wrong which caused the car to drift badly.

The funny part for 3 sets of lights I caught up to them at red lights while they waited for them to turn green and I never exceeded the posted 100 kph limit.

Not making a general comment, but everytime I see a car VN/VP/VR/VS with P plates they are generally being driven like lunatics. Changing lanes eratically is my biggest pet hate.

Young people seem to think they are invincible on the roads and the sad thing is even with all these youngsters being 'written-off' on our roads the message still doesn't seem to be getting thru.

I drive a VZ and the amount of dickheads that try and entice me into a drag is insane.

The days of people driving courtesly on our roads seem to be long gone.

People have no concept of correctly indicating out of round-a-bouts either.

Don't even start me on taxi-drivers either they are a mob of wankers  (don't get me wrong there are a few decent ones out there) but some of their interpretations of the Road traffic code are woeful. U turns at traffic light, talking on mobiles, stopping in the middle of the road to pick someone up, parking in bus bays, not indicating...I don't think i'll get many arguments here.

Another thing when are WAPOL and our TEG buddies gonna do something with some of these 'clearly' unroadworthy taxis on the roads, nearly ever Falcon taxi I see at night has a blown headlight and I've seen a few recently that the panel work is a 'demolition derby' specials, they just don't give a t*ss (sorry donga) about their vehicles presentation. I'd hate to think what visitors and tourists think of them and our City...

Sorry about the off topic ramble.

They want us to have our L Plates for a minimum of 6 months

I agree with this one.

The hours will be upped to 125 hrs in the Log Book before being able to take the Hazard Test

I think this will just cause more people to forge logbook entries. How many parents do you know that have enough time and patience to drive an hour a day with their son/daughter without failure. Bad idea.

P Platers get 4 demerit points insted of the current 12

This should have happened years ago. I have had my license since the day I turned 17 and I have nil demerits, have never got any at all. Some people are just blatantly stupid on the roads, these are the people that need to be OFF the road. Give them another chance once they have grown up a bit. It's pretty easy to lose 4 demerits!

P Platers will only be allowed a 1 person under the age of 25 in the car with them on their first year of driving.

I can see the point in this, and I tend to agree, but what about all the fun you and I had when we were 17 zipping around in our cars, behaving ourselves and having a heap of fun? This rule really only applies to the morons who think they are invisable on the roads...

P Platers will have a night-time curfew.

Don't agree with this one single bit. It's just stupid. I have been a shift worker most of the time since I got my license, and I grew up in Bunbury where quite often on your way to work at midnight you'd be the only car on the road ;) The cops pulled me over 17 times in 12 months, (no kidding) and never got me for anything at all. Just random breath tests, check the car over, ask me what I was doing and send me on the way.

P Platers will not be allowed to drive cars with eight or more cylinders.

I'm all for this. I'd even be pushing it to say that a P plater doesn't even need a 6 cylinder car until they've had a couple of years of road experience. Modified imported cars with turbo's fitted also should be banned. IMO, a P plater needs nothing more than a 2L 4cyl 4 door sedan to teach them to respect the road and other users.
