Hi Guys

Just wondering if someone is able to help me out. I have been using a Motorola GP900 2way radio and all of a sudden the volume knob just turns the radio on and off and stays at the same volume level. This volume level is extremly quite and is extremly hard to hear making is useless. Is there any way to fix this problem?? I do not have any programmimg gear for it as it was given to me so all I have is the charger and the 2 way making it hard to reprogram to see if that fix's it.

any help is much appreciated?

thanks in advance BFB

Sounds like the wiper on the pot is no longer making contact, or the pot has gone open circuit, or the track has worn down.
Basically a pot is a strip or track of carbon with a connection either end and a wiper slides along the length making the third contact. The knob is attached to the wiper. This makes a variable resistor or potentiometer. Anyway sounds like it has had the fritz. The bad news is that it can be difficult to fix. Almost impossible without the correct manufacturers part. A fixed resistor could be added to give a usable volume but you won't be adjusting it. Best bet would be see if somebody has a faulty unit you can pinch the pot from.

Thanks for you'r help Rob. Would it be very difficult to install a fixed resister onto or into the volume control. A fix volume is not idel but I would install one if it ment I could use my radio again that would be great. Thanks again mate

Anybody with electronics experience should be able to do it. While they are there they could first resolder the connections from the volume control then check for correct operation... it's possible that one of the solder joints has become bad. If so then it would be back to normal.

I have a used volume pot for the GP900. It was from an MTS2000 which is basically the same radio physically. I am happy to send it to you. PM with details.

Nice one Rusty. I'm back at work from next Monday so I'd be happy to look at the GP900 for BFB. No guarantees of course and Doorway Warranty.

Rob,

No problem. Will be posting him a complete harness tomorrow. Good luck!
