Handheld Scanner and PC recording

Post by Military »

Hi Guys,

What I am after is a good DC - Daylight handheld scanner that I can connect to a PC to record data transmissions, in particular I need to be able to record data transmitted on 406.025Mhz. Can anyone suggest a good scanner, and maybe the appopiate software as well

If you need IF output to record data, the Alinco DJ-X11 has this feature.

For free recording software, try Audacity and a lossless codec like FLAC. Another one to look at is VoxRecorder. That allows you to record only when audio is present.
Do you know what rate the data is? if it's 1200 or less then you should be right recording straight from the audio output of any scanner.

Thanks for the help guys. Had a look at the radio and I like what I see looks like it will solve this projects problem for me and im sure that i will be able to find some practical use for it in my free time as well.

The baud rate for memory is 400bps

Now if any one knows someone who knows BCH coding I will be set :)
