The one Antenna to rule them all

Post by Bigfella78 »

Ok the ruling party (WIFE) has said I can put one more antenna on the roof..

I don't even know if this is possible but I'd like to use one antenna to:

Use my Scanner, CB, and make an access point for my wifi network...

Any suggestions?

You'll need at least two antennas for that...

"But more than one antenna on the roof will look ugly.."

I've got the TV aerial on the old foxtel pole that is bolted to the side of the house and it pops out through the roof. I was thinking of running a mast along side it and having the antenna about 2 metres above roof height. Should give me pretty good signal for the area.

I have a steel frame roof and it cause's issues with radio tramissions.. Even the baby monitor has issues..

Ok next stupid question.. Can the Antenna for the scanner share the cable with the TV antenna? I already have a TV point near when I'm going to set up the scanner? or would it be better to avoid interference and install new cable?

The one I was thinking off was this one.. Thoughts?

In the whole system really. Impedance of TV coax and assosciated peripherals are 75 ohms. Where as all radio's and scanners that I've seen are 50 ohms.

It wont make a lot of difference for a RX only unit.
But yeah run a separate cable to avoid RF noise etc from the telly.
That discone will work with UHF CB into repeaters that you have line of sight to but if you want to work simplex over a distance it wont have any gain.

TV antenna works ok except remember it's horizontal so you will lose most of the signal from anyone transmitting with a vertical. (ie most fixed and mobile)

So I read.. I was thinking of installing another antenna and using the same cables as the TV antenna. But I think I'll install a new cable. They will be on the same pole. Given up on the wifi idea.. for now.. So Scanner and UHF CB on one antenna will work..
