overseas scanners

if you buy a sscanner overseas will they work here as well.
for example will the following work as it seems cheap and looks like it covers a good range.

Yes they will.You need to get a australian charger or power supply but.
I brought a uniden 796D from the US and it works well.

That's true, they will work. However some won't cover the 79Mhz VHF-lo band that the Firies here use.

basicly chasing a secound hand cheap scanner as my first one.having trouble spending $200.00 if i dont know if i will like it or not.

For the scanner? Should be from the manufacturer's site (i.e. Uniden).

Most of the interesting stuff is between 400 and 520Mhz, which all scanners should cover.

I have mine for sale as i want to upgrade to a wideband one that my mate is selling:
Uniden UBC120XLT H/held 100 ch Scanner in VGC, comes with box, rechargable battery and charger. Battery in excellent condition. $120 + postage (RRP $299)
