Earpiece issue

Post by yorky »

Hey guys,

Just purchased one of these: http://www.prestigecom.net.au/index.php ... cts_id=537

Now I just tested it with a scanner to see what it sounds like, and I can't get audio output unless I hold the PTT button down. I would of thought that audio output would still come through, with the audio input (mic) active when you hold the button down yes? Or have I gotten a defective unit?

Sorry yorky I've read that a couple of times and still found it confusing, probably because I'm knackered, so if I completely miss read my apologies.

You've plugged the set into a scanner, and to listen to the audio you have to press the PTT.

Not sure how well it would work in something other than what it's designed for, but I'd try testing it in a radio there may be some wiring thing. Certainly you should only be pressing the PTT when you're going to transmit which should cut the earpiece.

Yeah you got it, have to hold the button in to listen.

I've already plugged it into a Uniden CB and the same happens, no audio output without holding the button :(

The switch in the PTT is wired backwards so instead of cutting out the audio when you TX, usualy used to stop feedback, its the other way around.
Defective earpiece.

I tried to make a diagram to help explain it, But it did'nt want to work.

Yep sounds like (and this is purely logic) its been wired specifically for PTT function, therefore it would work normally on a radio (maybe brand specific) that actually has PTT as a function...
