Interesting stuff.

I use N-Type connectors on my ham gear in the car and at home.

At home it's RG-213 cable from the radio to the wall, then up to the antenna on the roof. For the car it's a much shorter run and that uses RG-58.

DSE sell plugs for both RG213 and RG58 cable - catalogue numbers P2400 and P2401 respectively.

N-type connectors are good if you have to use a connector. The trick is to have as few connectors as possible between your antenna and your scanner - the ideal set-up is one length of low-loss cable all the way so the only connectors used are at each end, but of course that's not always practical - especially when the cable comes into the house. Good quality N-types are well made and feel solid and heavy.

And they're shiny, because they're silver plated :-)
