What scanner for me?

Post by Nashy »

I have been looking at unidens scanners, however, when I rang them, they said the police are switching to Digital here in QLD.

Is this true, therfore, if I don't buy a digital scanner, its not going to work?

What I want to do is:

- Listen to aircraft while I photograph them
- Listen to police any other time

I was hoping to only spend about $250 on a scanner, is there anywhere I can get a digital for this price? Or don't I need a digital?

Excellent. I'm getting one of these instead of a Broncos membership (I'm from Brisbane), so I'll probably go for the 92xlt as it also has a charger and batteries included.

Gday Nashy.. Im running the 92xlt and find it great for those purposes you are seeking. The 800 band trunking channels seem to provide some different listening around law enforcement and corrections , this model does these also.
I find the 92 great for aviation listening in the Perth area although nowhere near as good as a dedicated airband radio but it is still well worth tuning em all in.
It is noteworthy however that the rubber ducky supplied with the unit is garbage and you will need a better antenna. It is also noteworthy that the unit comes with rechargeable batteries and transformer power pack.
