Help with trunking

Post by AustDaveWA »

Hi all,
I have had my 396xt for many a moon, but have only ever had it programmed for conventual scanning. I have decided to try scanning the trunking system but im not sure if I have set up the parameters correctly.

I am using FreeScan, and have saved what I have done and loaded into the 396. What I am hoping is someone might have some spare time to review what I have done if I was to send them my freescan file

Thanks

David

What areas/places are you trying to scan?

Hi Yorky,

Well Im not sure who/what is out there. But I live in secret harbour so as a starting point around the Rockingham/Mandurah/Baldivas areas would be good. But with work I can work anywhere from Mandurah to Butler so I would like to also include a wide area scan as well.

On of warsug members (cant remember who now) put up a PerthTrunkingChannels google doc which I have looked at. ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... tput=html# ). I have copied these frequencies (some of them) into my scanner but not sure if i have to do more.

Yes there is more to it, and some of those are either not in operation anymore or can't be used with a normal scanner to track.

Good luck finding anything in Secret Harbour aside from drunk locals on the weekends.

Only trunk system i know of that the 396xt would pick up around Perth is the p-25 police system. And that's encrypted.

Are the Transdev busses encrypted too? I know they're on trunked.

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, there really isn't anything to scan in Secret Harbour, not even the SLS since they're DMR encrypted. You could try the City of Rockingham's trunked network but they're probably encrypted.

SLS isn't encrypted.Single channel DMR.Most DMR is not encrypted.I listen to council security, hospitals ,shoping centres, motels, stadiums. There is lots to listen to out there. You may be better of selling the 396 to someone over east as there scanning the GRN P-25 network over there.Put the money towards a uniden 436/536 with dmr upgrade.

Oh, I saw on one of the Surf Life Saving threads that they were encrypted too.
