Car antenna for UHF scanner

I have a hand held Uniden Scanner UBC72XLT and a home made small clip bracket mounted near windscreen/door corner works well,,until i get south of Scarborough. works well in house too with standard antenea. I mainly listen to Mirrabooka ch21/41 and Midland 46/54. only problem is Batteries only last 24 hrs. going to modify power input from Car.
