Home based UHF & VHF receivers?

G'day

I've recently moved to Perth with the Aviation Rescue Firey's and want to set up two receivers (or one, if such a thing exists) at home to listen to Perth Ground VHF (121.700?) and our stations UHF channel (500.050 I think) at the same time. I live only two kilometres from the tower so I'm hoping I won't need anything too elaborate and don't need full scan capabilities. Are there any "Jaycar like" kits that I can solder up and build into a nice stack with a power supply, amp, speakers and roof mounted antenna  ? Any help would be most appreciated. [-o<

Thank you

Matt

I am fairly sure the ARFF use APCO P25, which is digital.
If so, you can forget about any kits for that side of things.

We use Tait TM9155 units which, by the looks, are capable of operating APOC 25 but not sure. Can I buy something off the shelf to receive it or do you need special licencing/approval? I have a FROL but I doubt that's relevant??
