Hi all.
Im thinking of purchasing a trunk tracking capable scanner but not sure wheather its worth getting an old ubc8 or a digital scanner....The last time i heard...Only the airport was using unencrypted digital.
Also, Im interested in listening to the Biscom trunking system in perth ontop of the QV1 building, idealy the city of stirling......
is ti worth buying a digital scanner in perth?

Not really worth it as there are almost no unencrypted P25 systems here. The only unencrypted trunking system that's worth listening to is the MPT trunking at ~415MHz and no scanner I know of has built-in capability to track it.slipknot wrote:Hi all.

so not even that uniden trunk tracker can track it?
Re: is ti worth buying a digital scanner in perth?
The only way to properly track the QV1 (Stirling council) is via a free PC program, plugged into the digital trunk scanner via serial. Just means its not really portable.

You dont need a digital scanner to follow City of Stirling. You can use this http://linato.net/trunkview/
I was using it for a while and found it to be a pain. But you may find it easier. To listern to Stirling scty i just run a custom scan from 415.000mhz to 417.000mhz.

Yes but you have to have a supported scanner still.
Instead of a range scan I used to scan the 20 odd channels.

And a list of the supported scanners can be found at http://linato.net/trunkview/?radios.yorky wrote:Yes but you have to have a supported scanner still.

And also just an extra note to my last, at night there isn't usually much activity on the trunk except for Stirling Security and a Taxi type company. However during the work day its pretty busy.yorky wrote:Instead of a range scan I used to scan the 20 odd channels.

Try 460.625 mhz.It seems to be mostly stirling council.
Re: is ti worth buying a digital scanner in perth?
Just be aware that the trunk can select any one of the frequencies to broadcast on, not just that one. So you would only get traffic on that channel "some" of the time.

Re: is ti worth buying a digital scanner in perth?
All of the trunking mpt seems to be in the 415mhz range. Why am i getting stirling on 460mhz ?Im getting stirling scty, balcatta tip and parks and gardens. And im not really loosing much conversation.Only thing is the constant background buzz/hisss noise.
Re: is ti worth buying a digital scanner in perth?
Oh, sorry yes that isn't the trunk I was thinking of. Perth metro it appears to be Vertical Telecoms http://web.acma.gov.au/pls/radcom/assig ... ID=8155703 but a low power link?

There are three such Links between QV1, and a site at Trigg, which are all licensed to Vertel.
There is an MPT1327 Site at Trigg, and an MPT1327 Site on QV1, both licensed to ACN 054 065 011, also known as Biscom WA.
ACN 054 065 011 is either owned by Vertel, or owned by the same Company that owns Vertel, so it is possible that the Vertel Links are part of the backbone of the ACN 054 065 011 Network, and that is why Stirling would be heard on those Links.
