For those who don't know, there's an event up at Barbagallo Raceway on Sunday 28th November called the Festival of Speed. Mark Webber will be putting in some laps around the track in his Red Bull F1 car.

Don't know what kind of things there'll be to listen to up there, scanning-wise, but I can imagine there'd at least be something interesting :)

My ticket arrived by post yesterday, should be slightly awesome :P

A little birdie whispered to me also that the police display might be worth watching... Something to do with some pursuit driving around the track? ;)

Plus, information received last night suggests that for those who aren't going to the Festival of Speed ... well first off, shame on you! ;) Secondly, there's a chance to see Mark Webber in his F1 car in the city on Friday at noon.

Apparently he's going to be doing a run from the corner of Barrack Street and Riverside Drive, along to Victoria Ave, onto Terrace Road, then back to the corner of Barrack and Riverside again. Only a short run but it could be interesting!

EDIT: After reading my notes, the police display on Sunday is supposed to be on track around 12:40pm for those who are going. As always, the programme invariably changes as some things run over-time, or events get swapped around, so it's no guarantee...

I think the drive in the city has been canned. That was part of the plan for the original event as it was goining to be held in the city.

No one from Red Bull have asked for Motor Sports Fire Crews and with what I had to put in place for Barbagallo I would think that conforms he wont do it

Well we'll have to wait and see - it's odd that it hasn't been widely promoted if it is happening, but then the information I received that says it is happening only came through to me last night.

So who knows :)

Yeah I'll have a radio headset on and some little foam earplug things underneath if it doesn't block out enough of the noise.

Having been to the F1GP in Melbourne a couple of times now, I know how much noise those bloody things make! :P

Because we're radio amateurs who think that anything that goes over your ears is better with a radio in it ;)

They're not two-way, they are reactive.. silence loud noise but let you converse normally.

There were a few news choppers hovering overhead Riverside Drive and William Street about 12:10pm - traffic was at a stand-still for approx 10-15mins.

Def wasn't a crash or anything. Did the F1 make it's lap?

Sure did - was Daniel Ricciardo though who drove, not Mark Webber. Was awesome to watch! :) As Auntys_Eyes said, it went from the Bell Tower up Riverside Drive, onto Victoria Avenue, and back to the Bell Tower again, much like the description I gave the other day. Map.

Now if only the place wasn't full of idiots who kept stepping out into the roadway... Grrrrrrrr.

There was a Ravensthorpe VFRS truck there, and a ton of police.
