Aircraft Antenea

Post by jasonjag »

My aircraft base Antenea is 10 feet tall on the high part of the roof, the SCABase Anenea, is good for Aviation, not as clear for Fesa etc, Aircraft are told to contact Pearce Center on climb, I can barely hear Pearce Center, can any one explain why, do I need to get the Antenea higher up, to receive better reception. jj

Probably. What suburb are you in? Height is always good, especially for line-of-sight frequencies. Do you know what type of antenna it is? (eg 1/4 wave, high-gain etc)

Speaking from experience I can say you've got a few things conspiring against you if you want to receive anything from Pearce!

I don't know what suburb you're in but Pearce is located in a fairly flat area - the antennas for Pearce Centre (123.3) aren't positioned in the elevated hills east of Perth as is the case with Perth Approach and Departures. Depending on where you're located, the distance from Pearce is also likely to be a factor.

Also, Mobile One's website does say the SCABASE favours the higher frequencies.

When it comes to picking up Pearce, a good antenna, mounted as high as possible, is essential.
