WARSUG Social Event

Post by Zebedee »

Good afternoon all!

The admin/mod team have been discussing a WARSUG social event behind the scenes, since it's been a while since we've had any kind of get-together as a group.

Tentatively, we're looking at going go-karting at Kart World, Belmont on Sunday 8th March at 5:00pm. The address is 8 Cowcher Place, Belmont (formerly Esther Street), off Abernethy Road. Google Maps link here.

If you're interested in a chance to meet other WARSUGers and have a bit of fun demonstrating your karting skills, then please let us know by replying in this thread ;)

Once we know how many people are likely to attend, we can go one of two ways - either just turn up and do the "arrive and drive", where we mix in with whoever else might be there (last Sunday it was fairly quiet at that time, maybe half a dozen or so other people that's all), or we can hire the venue for one of the package options.

If we go with "arrive and drive", then people can buy as many 20-lap sessions as they want to ($25/$45/$65 for 20/40/60 laps). If we want to hire the place out so we get exclusive use of the track, then we're going to need to organise things a bit more.

So ... who's interested? If you are, let us know below, and state your preference for exclusive hire, or arrive-and-drive...

Yep it sure would
Well it all has to be payed for 2 days prior if we are booking the place out. I would suggest that those coming can pay Doug before a week in advance and he can make the booking that way we don't pay for someone and they don't pitch, or if that does happen they've paid for themselves.

If we go down the track (pun intended) of booking an exclusive session, then in my opinion the sooner the better so that someone else doesn't book that time before us...

But if there's only going to be a few of us, then we can always just take our chances and turn up :P Then people can pay for as many or as few sessions as they want...

Count me in then. I will be the guy wearing a SACFS shirt probably, so you all know who I am. I am happy to arrive and drive or book a session, just let me know how much and who to catch up with and pay etc....
Cheers

Aha, some interest!

The people who've said yes so far are: Auntys_Eyes, AO11912, Tyranus, gkoutlis, Nafenn, Zebedee, Numloxx, ricco1298, Ben
Possibilities are: BuddahFRS
Cheering from the sidelines: Meg (May get roped into camera duties ;) )

To make it viable for booking the track for an exclusive hire, I'd have said about fifteen or so people would be needed for the package option I'd originally thought looked the best. At the moment, we have nine, with a possible tenth. So unless there's a big jump in the number of people saying yes, then I suggest we either "arrive and drive" and everyone pays their own way, or we go for one of the smaller packages, e.g. "Le Mans".

That package works out to be about $75 per person, and for that we get:
* Short warm up
* 15 lap Heat – all drivers compete in sessions
* 25 lap Final – all drivers compete in sessions
* Trophy presentation

Max Time Allocation:
8–9 drivers - 45minutes plus arrival 15 minutes prior
10–18 drivers – 75 minutes plus arrival 15 minutes prior
If we take our chances and go with the "Arrive and Drive" option, then it costs $65 for three 20-lap races. The track is 300m long and depending on the class of kart you're driving, the lap times are between about 22 and 28 seconds ... ish. So one race would last for approximately 10 minutes, give or take a bit, giving a total on-track-time of around 30 minutes.

EDIT: Poll added but please only vote if you intend on turning up ;)
