Is there any chance we could get the avatar function available?

Avatars play havoc with those using mobiles to access certain threads - more downloads, more cost and slower speed.

Do mobile phones cache images when surfing? If so, then it won't matter any more than if using a PC and a browser. The image should get cached. Either way, all you have to do is visit your display options in the UCP and......

Display avatars: ºYes •No

I kinda doubt there'd be much of a cache in a mobile.

Pushing up an old thread here, but is there any chance of enabling the ability to link an avatar from another server? I wouldn't mind making my profile a little more jazzier! =P~

I recall this was discussed but as many use this forum for info in an emergency, often on a lower bandwidth/display size device like a mobile phone, it was decided that avatars didn't add anything, and would slow down people in the above situation.

Most things like images and avatars can be disabled per forum and by each user in their profile, so I don't see why Avatars can't be enabled (User Control Panel->Board Preferences->Edit Display Options->Display Avatars/Smilies/Images/etc)
If I don't want to see people's avatars then I just check a box. So long as the avatars can be blocked from being uploaded...

What sort of a clown would rely on this site in an emergency? Surely people should be relying on emergency services during emergencies. Its asking for trouble.

Me. 8) Because I didn't have a scanner with me and the FESA web alerts only get updated about every half hour (at best).

I would be careful making decisions based on information posted on this site. You only have to look at some of the information posted about fires and read how people argue about what is/has happened. I personally have been to plenty of fires discussed on this site, and the information on this site is no where near the mark.

Thanks all, but I'm well aware of how information can differ, but in this instance, any info was better than none. Nonetheless the fact remains that WARSUG is frequently more up to date than the FESA website.
