WARSUG Changes 23rd October 2008

Post by Zebedee » Thu Oct 23, 2008 8:01 pm

A message to all forum users from the administration team.

WARSUG has taken a step forward and appointed additional moderators to most sections of the forum.

Please join us in welcoming: Always RX, AO11912, Auntys_Eyes, Froggles, Gkoutlis, Meg, Nafenn, Robbage, Tyranus, VK6ZMS and Yorky to the moderation team. Not forgetting Bonez, WPXZBP and Numloxx who have been moderators for quite some time now.

Why do we have more moderators?

The site is growing, and the admins can't be everywhere at once. We do have lives too you know! :)

Our moderators are there for three main reasons: To help provide information and advice, to keep the site an enjoyable and welcoming place for all forum members (both new and longer-term) as well as visitors, and to help the admin team in making sure that posts in each forum are on topic and within the rules.

That leads on to:

Forum behaviour

Once again, there seem to be a small number of people who are choosing to behave in an unreasonable manner and make the environment unpleasant for others.

Starting immediately, the following system will be implemented for people who choose to use this site in a disruptive manner.

The first time a moderator or admin has to take action to edit or remove a post that's against the site rules or not in the spirit of fair play, you will be notified via PM why the post was edited or removed. This is your chance to take note and adjust your posting accordingly.

If further action has to be taken, your account may be suspended for seven days without notice, and when the account is re-instated you will essentially be "on probation" until you can demonstrate that your posting has improved.

Forum members "on probation" who do not improve their conduct will likely result in their account being removed.

Most forum members behave themselves, so none of the above will apply to them, but the inability of a minority to generally behave like mature adults have resulted in these rules being imposed.

This forum should be fun, it should be a place where we can come to share information and knowledge on radios and radio scanning. It's not a place to come to argue with other people, to belittle them and what they write, and generally make life unpleasant for others.

There's something on here I don't like! What do I do?

If you see what you consider to be poor behaviour by another forum member, DO NOT BITE BACK or you'll likely end up with the same penalties as the other person. This cannot be stressed highly enough.

The correct course of action should be to raise the matter by using the "report post" feature (it's the [!] symbol at the bottom-right of each post). If your report hasn't been actioned within a reasonable timeframe, please feel free to contact one of the relevant moderators via PM and let them take care of it. "Vigilante or "Revenge" posting has no place on here.

A moderator is picking on me! What do I do?

Our moderators have been chosen because they have all proven themselves to have the kind of qualities we were looking for in a mod. However that's not to say that any of us are perfect. If you have a grievance with the decision of a moderator, then please raise it PRIVATELY with one of the admins and we'll look into it. DO NOT complain by posting publicly and do not give the moderator a hard time publicly or via PM. That will get you nowhere.

Anything else?

As we said before, the majority of the rules above will have absolutely no impact on most forum members, because most forum members do the right thing every day and keep this site a fun and informative community - to those people, a heartfelt thank you.

But to those people who think that this is their own personal soapbox, where they can come to stir up trouble - think again...

Of course, if anyone has any questions or concerns about these new rules, please reply via PM to an admin and we'll be more than happy to discuss them with you.

Regards,

The Admin team.

Thank you to all the forum members who continue to do the right thing and make WARSUG an excellent community for people interested in radios and radio scanning.

Since this post has been made, our moderators are now well established and have some good experience in looking after their sections of the site.

Just a reminder, that if there's a post or thread that you think is inappropriate, please give our mods something to do and PM them! ;) We need to make sure they earn their executive-level salaries!

The admin team can also be contacted if there's something that you feel needs admin-level action, but for most things, the section mods should be your first port of call.

Many thanks,

It is very dark.
