Re: Interesting vehicle with antenna

ACMA (and predecessor agencies) have long had vehicles in WA. They investigate RF interference (and all manner of other things, including unlicensed transmissions). If you at the three roof racks you'll see what look like three antenna mounts. They may be used for measuring network performance of mo...

Re: Whip or antenna

I would reckon just about any vertical antenna with no ground plane appendages could be considered a whip.

In that video, the two black antennas are helical whips, while the other is a solid steel whip. Both whips, though they employ different methods of construction.

Re: NCRG Hamfest 2011

Keep an eye out for 'Honest Steve the radio man's friend', I'll have some absolute bargains on my table: a 27mhz Station Master Mk II base antenna, a Mobile One 'Bandspanner' a vintage Realistic Pro-31 handheld - the list goes on!

That is interesting info, SOR.

Do you reckon they'd be AM of FM (or even both?)

For sure. From what I've heard it sounds like they're also doing exercises in conjunction with the RAAF.

Re: RAAF Noteworthy Movements

I don't know if anyone else was listening, but this past week has been the most intense I've heard in 20+years of milair scanning. Many frequencies in the 225-400 area that I've never heard in use before.

Re: RAN Exercise Triton Storm 2

Yeah there's no mention of the SAS being part of Triton Storm, though the RAAF (P-3s) and some fleet support Lear Jets have been involved. Some 'hits' between 225-400 in AM.

Re: SJA - Neonoct..... - Newborn Baby Ambulance No.2

It appears to have the blue Government 'Q' number plates, which implies it's owned by the State Government, not SJA.

Re: My First Scanner (Communications Receiver) ICOM IC-R6

Yep, that's pretty much it: you can't expect one radio to perform well on LF, HF and VHF/UHF. These bands all require different circuitry and different antennas. The IC-R6 is one of a number of radios that have coverage as low as 500kHz and as high as 1300mHz, but few perform well over the entire fr...

Re: HELP badly needed from thie group!

The 'news media' aren't only interested in 'entertaining'. Plenty of car crashes - including fatal ones - occur that get no mention in print or electronic media. The fact is that, in 2011, not all fatal car crashes are newsworthy. That's not a comment on the media, but on what value various stories ...

Re: WA Aviation Frequencies

I would try everything and see how you go, but robbage is right: a good antenna is vital. Perth Approach 123.6 Perth Departures 118.7 Melbourne Centre 125.2 and 133.9 Being in Beechboro, also try Pearce Tower on 118.3, Pearce Departures on 135.9 and Pearce Centre on 123.3. More info can be found her...
