Re: Waccom UV5r opinions?
Well, bugger, I've got a UV5R on its way to me right now. I intended to program it to work on the 80channel UHF CB system. It only cost $50. What should I do? Should I just not open the package? Would it be legal to own if I had a foundation license? I'll try not to be as bone-headed as the OP here,...

I've heard P25 on Channel 5 a few times.

Re: Best hand held scanner
I can personally vouch for the Uniden EZI30XLT.
Does the VHF band, as well as (more applicable for me) the UHF band used by the SES. It's handy to listen into when I can't make it to the unit.

Re: Deliberate radio interference
It's bittersweet, as it means that we don't get interfered with by these idiots, but also the media can't hear our comms, which is great.
But it also means the end of scanning our local repeaters to hear what is going on live on the fireground.

Re: News: Police property stolen includes 15 portable radios
That's not good. How often do WAPOL re-key?
I've heard accidental clear transmissions because of poor switch usage.
Those radios are no doubt in the hands of criminals being used to keep tabs on WAPOL.
