Re: A trap for young players
You are correct but it would also be radio related as well wouldn't it? Why go through the middle man when you can use the cross band repeater? Because in many cases the middleman controls the radio net, and often next to him is a person keeping the operations log, and somewhere behind them is the ...

Re: A trap for young players
I think some of you guys are missing the point, this isn't a problem caused by the radios lack of features, colouring etc It's primarily a problem caused by lack of experience of working inter-agency, a lack of appreciation of how the other team works. It should have been picked up in the briefing. ...

Re: A trap for young players
* Colouring the radios would not have necessarily picked up the problem as the Albany team was pretty much put straight onto the plane * If you want to start a decent bun fight, get the country bush fire units talking about losing the 70 Mhz channels NOT HAPPY What I think should have happened was t...

Re: A trap for young players
I think installing the correct radio's would help, . Not really an issue of "installing", as the Bremer units were using their WAERN vehicle radios and their hand held VHF radios, as far as they were concerned they were doing the correct thing The Albany units turned up with handheld UHF ...

A trap for young players
This week the Albany SES air-obs helped in the search for a missing tourist, swept out to sea in a rip at Bremer Bay. There were problems communicating between air-crew and ground crews Afterwards it transpired that two groups were on different bands, one was on UHF the other VHF, even though they w...

Re: The ICV as we know it
Sounds like you haven't actually seen the FESA ICV. It might pay to actually know the facts before you make off the cuff remarks like you did. The current ICV is an excellent IVECO van which I had the pleasure of using at a rather large fire in Mount Barker in March, 2009. The same van is still in ...

Re: The ICV as we know it
with ref to the Albany situation Good recovery exercise Oh God Nooooooooooo I mean a really big cliff the cliff of doom the cliff of no return I have been told that FESA are considering replacing all ICVs in the Perth area. Not sure of exact details, but it is a 5 year plan to replace all FESA and L...

Re: The ICV as we know it
The Albany situation is sooooo sad
The City of Albany has an old caravan barely adequate to do the task
FESA Albany has an old ( I think Ford ) van which should have been pushed off a cliff years ago

As a former author and columnist in some of the magazines you mentioned, I can tell you a lot of hours, both in research and writing went into delivering that scanning information. It was very much done for the love and not the money. Russell Bryant strewfffff that goes back a few years well as a f...

Re: No 'gawking' at a fire in South Australia
thats a very narrow minded way of looking at it. I spent 12 years in a bush fire brigade the "narrow minded way" is the result of dealing with plenty of gawkers but I think it would be a good idea that all emergency workers SHOULD be able to issue move on notices (similar to police) , for...

Re: No 'gawking' at a fire in South Australia
gawkers should have their car crushed
regardless of whether they are legally parked or whatever
and if they are not in a car
they should be made to buy a car
and then have it crushed

Re: Albany SES Comms training
Sorry I should have clarified They will be using UHF WAERN Ch 115 or SES UHF Ch 15 ( under the old scheme ) the frequency I have for that is 467.175 MHz The reason for 115 is because the unit is normally on 112 but they didn't want to interfere with the repeater on 102 If time permits HF calls will ...
