Re: W.A Fire Appliances
hold3n- the FESA website now has the spec sheets available for viewing in the "about us" tab. the broadacre 2.4's dont carry rescue gear so normally wouldnt turnout to a rcr. the career 2.4U is different again to the ones on the website.

Re: Water corp Fire support
a burst main may endanger life if we over-run the reticulated supply at a big job and dont have enough water for clp's, monitors, sprinkler systems etc- at this point water corp would be required to attend asap to isolate surrounding non-essential supply.

At that time of a saturday nite it was probably to a mva, a bin fire or carfire. highly unlikely to be for a scrub fire and armadale only has a handful of dba's.

It would be 6 firefighters in BA, not 6 crews. 6 crews would mean stage 2 BA, the SET, ICV etc- a very big job.

Re: MDT Upper & Lower Case
All Incident info comes through in uppercase. I havent heard any issues so not sure in what context they occur. Whether you're on station or not is indicated by "AVAIL RAD" or 'avail stn" in the top RH corner of the MDT. I dont think if these messages were in upper or lower case would...

Re: The usual suspects from Perth & Fremantle
Hey WR- that Medium Pump may have been doing a standby in perth. also given that both pump drivers arent wearing turnout gear suggests maybe they were there for some other reason, maybe a booster drill or chogm related drill... Perth normally has 2 medium pumps - perth 2nd and perth 3rd, however per...

Re: NSW Fire Brigades - Pump
[quote="auntys_eyes"]I assume this would be equivalent to our Heavy or Medium Pump. This unit is from Silverwater station and was photographed at Sydney Olympic Park. The pump is equivalent to a series 3 or 4 medium over here@3600lt/min capacity, it has the same Godiva pump as a series 3 M...

Re: Major structure fires (3rd alarm and above) 2010/2011
WR- it may have been a suspicious fire, however its not uncommon to have embers from structure fires travel into in neighbouring properties- especially into ceilings where the fire can remain un-noticed in an incipient state for hours before escalating.

Re: When a DBA Alarm is recorded as false
The alarms can be activated when a sprinkler is damaged, the panel will indicate a sprinkler is active via a change in system pressure. The fire hydrants in perth are solely for emergency purposes, i think the majority of sprinkler and booster systems have a non-return valve to prevent a drop in mai...

Re: preparing for Career FRS
I agree with kempa, the school I went through there were a number of people with volunteer experience- however only a couple with firefighting experience. Some were clubbies, animal shelters etc. Having volunteer expereince helps meet the FESA values which plays a part in final selection. The day i ...

Re: General fire discussions
1st, 2nd Alarm etc, relates purely to the number of pumps at a job. You can have a 1st alarm scrubby with a pump, a few LT's and a 2.4, 7.2 etc.
depending where the Butler job was, 88 may be related to a request for vollie tanker for water supply if a hydrant wasnt nearby.
cheers
