Minor Fires and Other Incidents 2015/16

This thread is to report and discuss small fires and other incidents that don't fit the categories for either the Significant Bush Fires or Major Structural Fires threads.

If you're not sure what should go where, feel free to contact a mod or admin and we're happy to help and advise.

Enjoy!

Re: Major structure fires (3rd alarm+) 2014/15

Vulcan Control - a hopper on the outside of the building was on fire, has now travelled through pipe-work to a hopper on the inside of the building.

Crews are in BA inside the building, cooling and extinguishing.

Re: Standard Licence

Hi Doug, I think I met you when I done my F class, names Dale, call sign VK6FIOR. I work away a lot as a FIFO, so very hard to commit, I'll probably do something on line if I don't sign up to Ham College again for my standard if I go down that path. I've got the syllabus that I dig out every now an...

Re: Standard Licence

I just got my F class with Ham College back in June, I want to do my standard, but I don't know if I've got the knowledge. I've always been interested in operating a radio, not building it. Shouldn't be too bad. Standard is reasonably straight forward with a bit of work. There's a few ways to go ab...

Re: Letting your friend use your station

Hi all. Just wanted to double check as its been a while since my Regs exam. I have my standard licence and was wondering if you are allowed to supervise your friend if they want to have a go at using dstar if they dont have a licence? Yep. The current Amateur LCD says that an unqualified operator c...

Re: 430Mhz for RC control

There are so many people saying a foundation is all that's required for RC control in UHF 433Mhz so its very confusing. Yeah they're only thinking about it from the perspective of frequency and for that part they're right. You can transmit on 433MHz on a Foundation licence. But you can only transmi...

Re: 430Mhz for RC control

Well isn't that a lovely can of worms that just opened ;) You're right - 430-450MHz is the amateur 70cm band. However inside there is something called the "LIPD Band" (LIPD standing for Low Interference Potential Devices). ACMA have some info on it here . I don't know whether RC aircraft w...

Re: Significant bush fires 2014/15

Old news by now but today there was a third alarm bushfire in Ellenbrook to the west of the Malvern Springs Primary School in the area that will one day have the Perth-Darwin Highway built through it.

The sand was hungry. Very hungry. Units getting bogged left right and centre.
