Hi All, The poorer cousins use Lukas cutters and spreaders (jaws of life). Some vol FRS brigades use either combitools (combined cutters and spreaders) and rams. Other brigades have cutters, seperate spreaders and then rams. Some SES units still do road rescue in the state e.g. Harvey. And some FESA...

Hi PFO, yes the PUA is more geared up for water rescue immobillisation and rescue from confined spaces and heights.... The HLT training packa is more comprehensive on the side of using the noggin blocks , KEDs and other fun stuff like that. So it's all good. Hi Missingpersons, you could be right abo...

And FESA carry long back boards on the Heavy Pumps too. SJA advised against using these, though it's much easier to extricate onto a rigid spinal board than a scoop stretcher. Hi PFO, I didn't mean to sound insultive, though yes people are only as good as the training and equipment they receive. The...

Hi Ambul8,
take a look at the Australasian Registry or EMTs http://www.aremt.com.au/ not sure when or where the courses would be run, though it could be a good alternative..

Hi Musketeer, yes agreed and it took so many years to get the scoop stretcher in the first place. The old Jorden Frame was a bugger to set up and use. And never fitted very well on the old stretchers in the vans. Long and short spinal immobilisation boards are better protection as you have already s...

Grrr'
I though there is an Australian Standard for maintenence of electronic medical equipment, (think it's every 18 moths or something like that AS3200).
Don't forget another WA ambulance service also had got in hot water with the health dept a few years ago.. an ex-ambo, Dr Ixx Jxxxxs. Yes really.

Hi Munchkin, I think St Johns feel threatened when people from other services apply. Hi Sonic, I'm not sure what St Johns look for in applications. Though in the past Teamwork, community service, academic achievements, attitude and job stability have been factors. A military or community service bac...
