I heard Perth Approach yesterday ask Rescue 65 to keep an eye out for 'Huey traffic', a helicopter doing power line cleaning.

Went down to the Esplamade (near the Bell Tower) and yep, the chopper was there. Got to see everything up close, chatted to the pilot - even sat in the pilot's seat!

You can also try 119.5, 119.7, 133.1, 134.6 and 134.8. These ones don't usually crank up on a weekend, though: they train Monday to Friday then take weekends off.

Scanner Recorder's really useful, especially if you only want to monitor one frequency. I've been using it today to suss out an airband frequency. Audacity's also really good for assembling several audio recordings into one.

I think you'll find that at those times of the year when the patrols aren't happening (i.e, the non-summer months) the helicopter goes back into the operator's fleet, available for charter like all their other aircraft.
