If you come down to Tassie you can hear the Tas Pol on EDACS still. I'm curious to know what system is used by ambulances in WA and how they dispatch as we in Tassie are wondering what the future of the ambos will be, that plus the fire brigade. We have suspected that APCO 25 is the future?? Also ye...

Generally councils and taxis use that band to send data and have open channels making a "dut..dut..dut" sound.

I think the features today on UHF CB can stop the rubbish that is sent over the air waves. For 2 way comm you can easily turn on the CTCSS which will stop others. However if your just listening then yes expect the bogans to be on there talking rubbish.

Car accidents, intoxicated and noisy parties...

In Australian culture the grand final night is a time where many buy a carton of beer and get drunk. The TPS TAS and SES have all been working around the clock today, however it has only just got started here in Tassie. Oh is it? Not much can be done as it's in a tower shape, the circumfrence makes it impossible to expand, nice to know Tassie has such an old Casino.

The Wrest Point in Hobart is the same as any Casino, went there last night - never win anything so see no reason to gamble. They do not have anything as sounding as nice as what's in Jo'Berg.

I have and recommend the Sangean ATS 909. No idea why such a good radio would RIP, rather sad really. Hope you have good luck. You will like the fact the ATS 909 has a narrow filter to stop the high pitched squeals and a gain control. I never use my ATS 505 since having the 909. Hope this helps!
