Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.

If you have a look at the Emergency Management Australia Website under publications and i think manuals there is actually an emergency catering/refreshments manual that has all sorts of recommendations in it and suggested items for each level/duration. www.ema.gov.au

Re: SJA Subaru Sprinter

Nice. Can't wait to see what the NT one will be like. We sold our territory as seen earlier on the board and we're getting a forester too.

Anyone have any ideas on how the forester goes? I was thinking of buying one of the 2009 Forester XS models myself

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.

From my experience at fires with SJA catering is pretty good. DEC definitely have a catering trailer. BBQs and the like built in and i've seen a small portable cool room (rental) with it too. I've had some pretty good meals from there. Steak and onion sandwhichs, the good old sausage sizzle, cakes, ...

Wow. New BERT team is operational. How things have changed. I've only been gone a year too. Don't suppose there is any chance of a look at the new BERTs. First day time pageant too. I think i'm missing out on a fair few things. If you're interested in more SJA pics from the NT george just PM me.

I've actually had a ride in one of these before. Darwin has just got 4 new ones at over 1 million each. That monitor on top will put out around 10,000 litres in 2 minutes with a mixture of foam and water. Also carries 250kg of dry chemical powder. 6 wheel drive with BA integrated into the seats. One...

Life experience doesn't mean you have to have seen someone die. It's more of have an experience of the highs and lows that life can throw at you and personally i think more of an ability to cope with these natural highs and lows of life. It's not any set criteria but they like to see that you've bee...

Not 100% sure on the NT vehicles but there were some really old ones floating about e.g. first generation sprinters with the sort of strange auto shifting system. They're like the WA ones that had the weird baseball cap lightbar when the sprinters first came out. Trouble with the NT is that we get o...

Wow a jet. That's be pretty cool. We could use one of them here. Make the transfer from darwin and alice to adelaide a bit quicker. No more of an all day thing. Would the pilots have to be retrained to fly to jets or do lots of additional training rather? I'd imagined they would do. I wonder how tha...

I have to say i'm not a fan of the queensland colour scheme. I know the high visibility yellow is the new standard but it can just be applied in better ways and designs. E.g. look at the NT, NSW and WA ambulances. Look a bit nicer in my honest opinion.

Currently Berrimah comms is one big room with lots of little partitioned areas each with one operator, ambulance have a little section of 3, there is 1 for the fire service, and the rest is police. Interestingly enough i have seen some shared fire/ambulance stations in SA and in Alice Springs the am...

Please be aware that a tri service communications centre does exist in Darwin at the Berrimah Police HQ. Fire, police and ambulance in the one room. Fire calls and dispatch handled by a police member. Interestingly enough the Ambulance Service want to move out of it and have their own seperate one a...

SJA NT probably have the best relationship between volunteers and paid crews that i have seen Australia wide. Not too many people progress through past Clin 1 logbooks though (most have trouble getting them completed) as it does require a high level of commitment and most people with full time jobs ...
