Re: ACARS Decoding

PDW apparently decodes ACARS; not sure if it works however.

Programming 12.5k or 25.0k ?

Gents, I'm in the middle of programming one of my little sweethearts and have a good question to ask, if I am programming a specific band (in my scenario UHF frequencies) I have the option of using 12.5KHz or 25.0KHz steps. Does it matter which one I select (and why)? I am aware that VHF frequencies...

I believe ICOM still have a model available that is able to be carried around on your back (over your shoulders) but can't seem to recall what the model number is. Once upon a time I had a 27MHz portable handheld with a 2 meter telescopic antenna, as Bob Dylan once sung - times are a changin'

Alinco DJ-V5

I've owned four of these units in the past, liked them for there excellent receiver performance. The transmitter seemed to have on/off issues with the audio, but my message could still be heard loud and clear. Good for scanner enthusiasts for the receiver side of things. Rather bulky to hold in your...

Good Receiver Unit (Not reviews)

I've been running tests on various frequency bands and modes and have to report back that my Alinco has out performed my Icom by quite a lot. Whether squelch is disabled (don't be confused with what squelch is) or not the Icom performs terribly. As a person who loves DX'ing with squelch disabled, ma...

It hindsight the idea would be good, but probably won't work to well. Do you really want clowns from other states who can't have a civilized conversation creating more work for Gav & Doug to do while ruining the boards reputation for having a civilized community? If it were to happen a whole nam...

As per your information I've been monitoring 156.800 and there was a very brief conversation taking place on it. Will add it to my memory bank for future listening.

EDIT: Just found 156.400 as I was posting!

Bonez you've confirmed my suspicions, I had always wondered if those nationalities / countries had their own type of receiver capable of receiving those frequencies, much like our AM / FM radio setup. What has shocked me most is that that they need a scanner to listen to them, fancy trying to listen...
