I have used it handheld to catch someone on a repeater i could not get too well on my ht. I have also taken it to Augusta and not surprisingly copied the Bunbury, Mt Barker and Esperance beacons. The antenna showed directivity and gain. If planning to use outside for periods, the duplexer is inside...

@VK6ADF ... Have you ever use this antenna for terrestrial communication ? How does it perform ? (2 m and 70 cm)

If you get an Arrow Antenna, I would suggest getting a split boom,with duplexer. They are available cheaper with single boom and without duplexer but advantageous to have the split and built in duplexer. You can get them on eBay. I have received an e-mail from the Arrow guy ... finally ... about the price and costs of all the things I asked him ... Anyway, I will get one of those LEO antenna and will use it for both terre...

One other thing I found with the radio that's a little bit of a "negative" is that the keypad doesn't do DTMF tones. But hey, we need to remember that this is a sub-$100 radio and it's not going to have every feature imaginable... May be we can try whistling the DTMF like this guy ... :-&...

However, you must not transmit back to them, as doing so breaches the condition of your amateur licence. If you recall from the regs stuff - you can talk on amateur frequencies only to other amateurs . Just because they're on an amateur band, doesn't mean we can talk to them. Best to leave them alo...

For your information ; I understand every single words of what they are saying ... it is in Indonesian ... but not really sure what they are talking about ... I'm sure they are talking in some sort of code ... For example the last video (the one with the Sangean Shortwave receiver) ... The voice say...
