Re: WA firefighters' emergency speed cap

Whilst I won't go into detail, DFES can see speeds and certain actions taken by vehicles fitted with certain equipment. This makes the crew accountable for breaking policy and regulations. Given the fact that DFES have done a press release and it's been covered by news outlets, I think it's safe to...

Re: PTA going to digital LTE

heres hoping they fail with that otherwise im out of content to listen too DFES voice will remain analogue for the the next 20 years. There are significant barriers to digitisation of voice comms for the fire and SES comms. There is now a significant amount of data being sent from each vehicle eith...

Re: WA SES VHF Channels

Yeah. There will be less SES repeaters, which is good, as most COMCEN traffic will be over 6IP on the traditional VHF networks.

 They'll be waiting longer than 2020. Digital comms are hopeless once the system gets complex.

Re: News: Govt quashes dedicated public safety mobile propos

Looks like we'll end up being on Land Mobile Radio for a lot longer as a result of this, as existing infrastructure does not work everywhere that WAERN/WAPOLRAD/ whatever else the other states are using do.

I don't mind that prospect at all.

It's thanks to these horrible idiots, that radio tinkerers, enthusiasts, and amateurs will remain forever under suspicion by members of the public.

Re: DFES 6AR

Not usually. If the radios have any scanning function at all, 9 times out of 10 the scanner only does 401-519Mhz, not the 160~169Mhz that DFES use for 6AR. Best to equip a smaller scanner like a Uniden EZI30XLT or something along those lines. Battery operated, whack it into your cup holder, and relax.

Re: DFES 6AR

Or plug a small FM transmitter into the output of the scanner, and tune to it when you want to listen to the scanner. If you do it right, you can hide the scanner and little tunecast or something in the glovebox.

Yep, cheap, handy, portable, runs off 3 AAs and does so for ages.

I have one to complement my UBC355XLT

Re: WA Police - new cars and siren (2016)

They look ugly, gaudy, and out of shape.

Cool Rumbler siren though. Should outdo the basic wailers found on most DFES gear.

Re: Tracking of Fire Appliances

Oh, yeah, and I also forgot.

Check for an older operational circular.

States that the radios co-ordinate display may freeze, and not provide updated co-ordinates.
