Re: Metro Fire Stations
Kylep, the newer series IV medium have only 2 seats in the back. I would assume the new heavy pumps are the same. The middle seats have been removed and replaced with a locker for storage. Early series IV pumps had 4 seats in the back

Re: Metro Fire Stations
I think 4 is the minimium crew, not the max. Perms can not have less than 4 on a pump/lt.BuddahFRS wrote:with the perms, there max crew is usually 4 crews on station, with addition crews for specialized trucks (CLP, TTL, ICV, 2.4U, SET)

Re: CFA Concept Light Tanker
Very good concept, it would be interesting to see how it really goes at a fire. It would also need some good operators to use the pump effectively. From what I have heard it was used at a scrub fire in Victoria and preformed above expectation. The unit did assist in knocking down the fire quick. Th...

Re: Fires in Vic, SA and NSW Feb 09
I have mates from NSW that are down on a strike team. All they are doing is standing around for most of the time and then get told to go put out a stump or two. Nice use of resources. If the fire was here in W.A. it would have been out by now. Just goes to show how the operation is been run at the ...

Re: 2.4U vs 3.4U
a turn out time speed wise would be better in a 2.4 rather than a 3.4 with a tonne weight difference as well as mobility could be better aswell. power to wieght ratio.. I believe the 3.4 is on a diffent cab/chassis than the 2.4. Looking at the vehicle specs the 2.4 is loaded to 92-93% of its GVM, w...

Re: Fire Weather
Helitak_670 & Fastlane, are you thinking of the "Grass Fire Spread Meter" as the 3rd meter? Also Helitak_670. Don't get the Drought Index (DI) confused with the FFDI. The DI is one of the factors used to determine the Drought Factor (DF), along with the Rainfall to 9am and the number o...

FFDI - Forest Fire Danger Index
GFDI - Grass Fire Danger Index
There are two McArthur meters, one for forest and one for grass. They do have different scales and values. So when refering to a value, you need to specify what meter you are refering to.

Re: Fire Weather
Very extreme FDI's in Victoria. FFDI above 200. From memory around 50-60 was a trigger point for Total Fire Bans. I don't think there has ever been such a high and wide spread FDI as expected on Saturday.

Re: Significant bush/scrub fires 2008/2009
Possibly a truck fire, and only a couple 100 metres down from another decent size scrub fire, started by a burning car about 2 weeks ago.

Re: long duration BA
Sorry Zebedee I suppose you could find it somewhere in the FESA B.A Learning Manual if you can get hold of a copy. I was just stating what i knew of the top of my head ... That was exactly the point I was making. If it's documented somewhere, then where is it documented and what does it say? There ...

Re: long duration BA
As realfire said, all carrer pumps have t-pieces. They were initially placed on pumps that had the potential for long duration wears, but in recent years these have been placed on every pump.

Re: helitac question
Helitack_70. According to last years Victoria Aircraft call sign list, the Skycranes had tank capacities of 7500 and 9500. Saying that I am not 100% sure if they are using the same tanks as last year. Reference document http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/fires/updates/report/sau/SAU_External/documents/Resour...

Re: helitac question
There are 2 Skycranes in NSW, 2 in Vic and 1 in SA. The water capicity of these range from 7000lt to 9000lt.
