Let us know what you think of the 72 once you've got it up and running - I think a lot of people would be keen to hear your impressions.

From my reading the 92 is another $100. You do get an extra 100 memories as well, though. I understand that in the 800-900mhz band, it's pretty much all trunked and the 92 does not 'trunk track' so actually receiving anything worthwhile in that range could be frustrating. I've been scanning for 20 y...

At the $200 mark the 72XLT is great value: you get police/fire/ambulance and the VHF aviation band, it's got (finally) the 12.5khz spacing between 60 and 88 megs and a good number of memories. Unless you're specifically after trunking, digital decryption or want to listen to military aircraft betwee...

I see many of the 'UQ' call sign cars have two UHF antennas (as do the CD 500 series MIG vehicles) suggesting they have two radios (one for VKI, one for 'internal' use) - does anyone know if there's a dedicated police channel for the transit unit? or perhaps a seperate radio to communicate with the ...

Yes, but at the end of the lease, the leasing/fleet management company has to realise as much as they can from each 'asset'.

Or, as is the case in the UK, a silver car fetches more at re-sale than a white one. Hence the trend for British police cars (which are often BMWs or Volvos) to be silver (or indeed many colours other than white).

I've been using a 900mm stainless steel lo-band VHF whip for some years. It handles VHF-lo (FESA), VHF-hi (marine VHF) and UHF and peforms well. It terms of versatile performance, I haven't found anything better. No corrosion either! I've had a Diamond discone mounted outside at several dwellings ov...

RG-213 will probably be the most economical in terms of cost vs performance over 15m. Belden 9913 is a relatively specialised product and may need special connectors to suit (don't quote me on that though) and it's not a cheap product. Of course, either is better than RG-58. Also try and avoid using...

Once you leave the Perth Approach/Departures area, pretty much. Victor, if you're in Geraldton you might also want to try 126.7 (MBZ/Unicom, for aircaft in the immediate area of the airport), 134.2 (Area Control Centre, also Melbourne) and 131.65 (Aerodrome Weather Information Service). I'd be keen ...

Use the 'postcode range' search feature and use 6000 as the lower limit and 6999 as the upper limit.

I suggest using this in conjunction with the 'frequency range' search feature, otherwise you'll get a very big search return.

I expect the issue (not surprisingly) is cost. The current police chopper, a Kawasaki BK117, would be very expensive to maintain, both on the ground and in the air. Twin Lycoming LTS101 engines (as with any jet turbine engine) need maintenance to stay reliable. The more hours you do in the air, the ...

WACB Centre were able to sell me a Mobile One Stationmaster - a 27MHz base station antenna that most other retailers were telling me was 'no longer in production', but it appears WACB had struck a deal with Mobile One that 'if you keep selling 'em, we'll keep making 'em' so they were good from that ...

Try 412.475: the repeater's on (I think) the Channel Ten tower at Carmel and would be a good line of sight back to that area.

Re: Ok

Try 413.350: the repeater located at Fremantle Hospital. I recall when I lived in Freo this was a good signal.
