Re: Fire Weather
I've been watching that also, I think its going to start tracking south and probably cross the coast around Mandurah... unless it fizzes out...

Re: Fire Weather
Looks like a line of lightning heading straight for perth metro, it's about 150 km north west of perth and getting quite active as it gets closer.

Re: Motorplex Emergency Services
The Barbagallo guys are Volunteers, lately they have been running ads in gumtree for interested people to help out so the motorplex people are probably the same. Here's the link for the gumtree ad http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Jobs-volunteer-Motor-Sports-Fire-Rescue-Volunteers-WANTED-W0QQAdIdZ328301...

Re: General fire discussions
I think the fixed wings and helitacks were deployed elsewhere so with those guys out of the picture that might also have explained the career guys and the need for a quicker response.

Re: General fire discussions
There are still less resources in the metro area, It's just an interesting observation that FESA seemed to have changed their procedures for mobilising resources to areas well outside metro areas.

Re: General fire discussions
It's interesting how far the career fire and rescue crews are being sent this year, obviously Margaret River is a given however Ellenbrook, Butler, Joondalup 2.4, Malaga and Fremantle 1st being sent to a 60 hectare fire north of Bindoon... It's not a bad thing but I could see it being an interesting...

Re: General fire discussions
You wouldn't fly it over for an hour, we have a fair few fires going on in the state at the moment, bring it over for a week, do what it is intended to do which is trial it on a variety of fires and send it back, it doesn't seem to be trialing much on the east coast at the moment so lets get some da...

Re: General fire discussions
I think anyone who has been involved in firefighting for any decent time would agree that FESA tends to be reactive instead of proactive.

Re: General fire discussions
The DC-10 is only 5 hours flight away, compared to the cost of having the hundreds of fire fighters, earth moving equipment, support staff etc going over a week it would probably come in quite cost effective, I heard the running time was $10k an hour which is the same as one skycrane, plantly of pla...

Re: Other incidents/minor fires etc - 2009/2010
The tower would have called in with three letters and then a distance and an angle 0 degrees is north and it swings 360 degrees, if you remember how many degrees and the distance it was then you can get a rough idea on where the fire is from walyunga national park, Pinjar has a tower also so between...
