Re: General fire discussions

Next time we get heavy rain we can compare it to times when we get lightning. In the past I have been able to track lightning storms through the metro area simply by the DBA's that have been activated, where as when there has simply been heavy rain with no lightning I havent notice an increase in th...

Re: General fire discussions

It once was called a VSU but they changed it a few years ago to MDT, I'm feeling a little older than I should!

Re: Fire Weather

Another good one is http://www.weatherzone.com.au/stormtracker.jsp the only issue with it is you have to pay if you want to zoom in, but they do have fire and lightning options for the map.

Re: General fire discussions

They would have swapped their pump over, probably had issues with their existing one so while it gets repaired they would use a spare... which would be HP10, the comms center then just updates the info on to their computers so when they send details via the VSU it goes to the right pump

Re: Fire Weather

Quite a tight cell going through Karnet at the moment, looks like it would be producing alot of lightning, depending on the amount of rain you will probably find a few fires might pop up there later this arvo or over the next few days.

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.

I had gourmet pizza once for a midnight meal...about an hour of travel in a hot box on one hell of a bumpy road and it didn't look anything like a pizza... some meals just aren't made for a bumpy road! They started flying meals in via a chopper after that.

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.

From my experience at fires with SJA catering is pretty good. DEC definitely have a catering trailer. BBQs and the like built in and i've seen a small portable cool room (rental) with it too. I've had some pretty good meals from there. Steak and onion sandwhichs, the good old sausage sizzle, cakes,...

Re: Fire Weather

I was a member of a volly unit a few years back so did a few courses with them, from memory the advanced fire fighter course had a bit on weather, in my opinion a fire weather course should be a standard course for all members of brigades. WA has been very lucky over the past few years, there has be...
