One thing they could do is put in 'viewing windows' in the roof, at the moment if you sit in the cab it looks like you cant see up so it is going to limit what you notice in the trees, also touch screens sitting on the side of the vehicle? Might get a little hot at fires. It also seems quite low and...

Re: 2.4U vs 3.4U
you'll probably find that in WA they put turbos in so they can downgrade to a smaller engine, which makes the trucks cheaper, not really an issue untill you get a hill or sand, the trick is to keep the revs up so the turbo doesn't cut out, once it cuts out your screwed because then the smaller engin...

Re: General fire discussions
they are about to get red and blues, for a while now it has been an overall preference to stay with orange and red as its an old forestry connection and realisticly it didn't really bother anyone what colours the lights were.

Re: Significant bush/scrub fires 2008/2009
Kings park control just been advised by Osborne Park that there's an uncooperative male running around the area that won't leave. He probably was on some "party pills" and thought he was in northbridge :) In the end the Kings Park fire was a 4th alarm with two FRS 3.4's and three LT's fro...

Re: Fire Weather
It looks like most of the east coast (SA, NSW, VIC) is going to have a bad day saturday, and then we get our share of wind on Sunday and Monday before the heat on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday... fingers crossed it ends there.

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.
lollies are great but you get the dreaded sugar crash, you can also freeze muffins, slices of cake etc then you don't even need an esky if it is going to be only a few hours, they keep in a freezer for a long time.

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.
one expensive but very good thing to have in the 3.4's is a engel, they can fit with a little modification but do take up all the leg room for the middle rear seat. It is expensive but might be something you could get through the ESL or other grants. Eskies on the back of the truck are great for dri...

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.
I hope I didn't upset anyone on the last post. I havent been fed by the salvos for the past few years so wouldn't know that the standard is nowdays, I was more pointing out that meals are a very hard thing to produce on a fire ground and sometimes you cant help getting cold chicken. The type of meal...

Re: Refreshments at fires, etc.
My personal belief is that FESA isn't set up for large scale bushfire fighting (a lot of the brass are multi skilled, when sometimes you need specialists) , so when they have a largish incident the logistics for things like meals doesn't run very smoothly, hence your warm coke and cold chicken. Some...
