Re: Air Attack 09/10

The DEC spotters are based out of DEC Dwellingup, the spotter that takes care of the Perth Hills District (Bindoon to south of Dwellingup) sometimes hangs out at Jandakot if it's been in the air for a while and need to refuel etc. The Bombers are actually managed by DEC and the choppers are managed ...

Re: Other incidents/minor fires etc - 2009/2010

DEC had a fire and some burns down south so the smoke around the merto area (south of waneroo) must have been blown up from those fire then.

Re: Other incidents/minor fires etc - 2009/2010

mmm the wind is blowing the wrong way for it to be from that, we have a S/W here so maybe there is something else about, maybe smoke from down south blowing up. If the DEC fire is anything decent then I think DEC Wanneroo would be using channel 18 for some of the chitter chatter, so if you have a sc...

Anyone have any idea where the drift smoke around the midland/bassendean area is coming from?

Re: VFRS - Bassendean & Guilford

I was a member of Guildford for about 5 years and I joined up with them when I was 17, don't know if it has changed... it was about 11 years ago now.

Re: Air Attack 09/10

Obviously WA will never have the same size fleet as the East Coast states but when moving choppers out of the normal responce area is a touchy issue due to it affecting the coverage of the metro/outer metro area then maybe we are a little light on... I remember when they first got the S61 it was see...

Re: Air Attack 09/10

Carson developed their own blades for the S61 which gave them more speed and lift capabilities so it will be interesting if the new S61 carries the full 4000lt... probably wouldn't be that different if at all though. I saw an interview and the guy mentioned Erickson was bringing 6 choppers this summ...

Re: Significant bush/scrub fires 2008/2009

by the sounds of it it probably was from lightning... where I'm sitting near the coast it was blue skies at the time so didn't even think that there was lightning in the hills. They did say there was going to be an increase in the amount of lightning this summer... could be interesting times ahead...

If there was lightning around then you can get fires popping up over the next few days from it.

Re: Significant bush/scrub fires 2009/2010

They have three fires atm in the area:
-The spring rd.
-Bailup rd, 25ha, paddock fire, mop up
-Berry rd.

Winds are wsw at 24 gusting to 28 at Bickly so its above the threshold for forest fires so the active fires could go for a run... and a brigade has just turned out to another fire on Lilydale rd.
