Re: Legal or not?
The reason why it's so hard to find anything is because it's not there. Again, I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV. But I've seen this question come up over and over again through the years. And it's always come down to the same two basic points. * People make a claim that it's illegal to pa...

Re: Looking to get licensed
The main problem about doing the course is having to attend during school times, which isn't possible for me, and of course getting to the venue in time. The courses are held on a Saturday and Sunday, generally 9am to about 4:30pm or so. However, the whole situation around getting a qualification i...

Re: Looking to get licensed
I'll just be doing the exam and then doing the study from the videos and the syllabus attached in the exam information. OK. If you were doing the course, you'd not need any pre-study as everything that you need to know to pass the assessment is covered over the two days. Plus, you get experience us...

Re: Changing frequency limits on Baofeng firmware
Also the aviation band is generally AM whereas the Baofeng radio will only receive FM unless I'm missing something obvious in the specs
So even if it could be opened up to the right frequencies, the modulation type is all wrong so it wouldn't do you a lot of good.

Re: News: Govt under pressure to set up rural fire service
It was a 50/50 outcome on weather or not LG's wanted to keep their BFB's, From what ive seen, there is or may be an option for BFB's to become apart of the RFD, if they so desire, If individual BFBs or even potentially entire shires want to be run by DFES, there's definitely a way for that to happe...

Re: News: Govt under pressure to set up rural fire service
Sort of. I think what people really wanted was a completely independent rural service like the BFS used to be but this arrangement appears to be, I dunno, a DFES advisory group..? ONE volunteer association wanted a completely independent RFS but that's it. Three other volunteer associations plus gr...

Re: New DFES UHF channels discussion
I know this is VHF but I have just found out that there are three new MNC fireground channels which are MNC4, MNC5 and MNC6. Don’t know if anyone knows how to find what frequencies they could be. All the pre-formed comms plans including these new ones are in the "Metropolitan All Hazards Commu...
