Re: Ambulance Officer Procedures

Was told by a intensive care paramedic now doctor something which I have held with me my entire medical career. Basic skills saves lives. So things like good basic airway skills, sound assessment, situational awareness, good history taking are the foundation skills that really make a difference to p...

Re: AFP Exmouth

Geez as a 'bare base' in terms of RAAF activity you might have some time on your hands. Can't imagine there'd be lots of people based at the navy comms station or the army barracks either.

Re: Port Hedland VFS

What's the difference between VFS and VFRS. Obviously the rescue bit is gone but who undertakes the rescue services then if it's only volunteer fire service?

Re: VH-FOI Surf Life Saving WA new AgustaWestland A119 Koala

You're all talking about HUET training. Helicopter underwater escape training. I'm sure if you search it and Fremantle you should be able to find it. Sorry for more questions but any idea if the chopper has a volunteer in the back to do the rescue or is a career person. Not talking about the pilot a...

Re: VH-FOI Surf Life Saving WA new AgustaWestland A119 Koala

Any ideas on who'd go to a water rescue. The SLSA chopper or rescue 65? Is there some sort of MOU as to who responds to what?

Re: interesting army 4x4s

Yeah Darwin is basically half military. Darwin Airport is shared with RAAF Base Darwin, HMAS Coonawarra is a Navy Patrol Boat base and then there is Robertson Barracks which is home to 1st Brigade for the Army plus there is also Larrakeyah Barracks which is Army too. Go 300km south and then there is...

Re: interesting army 4x4s

Those are indeed bushmaster protected mobilitty vehicles. The V shaped hull is nothing new. It deflects blasts from underneath away from the vehicle. Some vehicles like ASLAVs don't have one which makes them more vulnerable. IEDs have become prominent in campaigns like Afghanistan but commercial min...

Re: legality of calling ambulances

Yeah be careful of the insurance companies and read the wording very carefully on the policy. Something I always try to tell people because your policy may only cover emergency transport and the insurance company definition of that may be different to what you think it is. Subscriptions are usually ...

Re: legality of calling ambulances

User pays system not caller pays. Otherwise lots of third party callers would be getting some huge bills which discourages people calling ambulances for others. Doesn't make sense for the caller to be billed at a traffic incident. They may be passing by, not involved at all and they aren't the ones ...

Re: Ambulance Officer Procedures

Just out of interest and not having a go at you. Why do you want to know? Cannulation and intubation aren't the be all and end all. Quite a bit of evidence that fluid administration pre-hospital isn't that beneficial in trauma especially if there is uncontrolled haemorrhage. Intubation maybe not be ...
