Re: West Perth Fire Station

I think 3 pumps are at Vincent. 2 are from Daglish and 1 from Perth (now called Vincent). Daglish is currently closed for renovations my sources tell me.

Re: Other incidents/minor fires etc - 2014/2015

I believe they were using the call sign "O'Conner" as the vehicles were sourced from the O'Conner workshops, not from Forrestfield. In the past they have used vehicles from Forrestfield, but it is possible that all Forrestfield appliances were already committed with staff and volunteer cre...

Re: Concept Evaluation Vehicle (Rescue)

P.S. My understanding is you can't completely fill this appliance up ( or any of the 1.4's ) as it will put them over their allowable weight. No DFES vehicles are ever loaded above the maximum weight. That would be illegal and definitely not be done. Series 1 HSR - now has reduced water capacity an...

Re: DFES digital

From what I have heard is that trials were conducted using digital UHF radios. I believe the aim is that these will be introduced in the metro area by the end of the year. Weather thsi is career only or includes Volies, who knows.

It is Section 13 of the Bushfire Act 1954 http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/wa/c ... 9/s13.html. Basically it outlines how DFES can take control of a fire from local Government or CALM.

Re: Other incidents/minor fires etc - 2012/2013

It isn't as simple as saying "put more staff on the trucks". Where are the staff going to come from? Considering that budget cuts are going to take effect, and there is talk that recruiting may be one casualty, the so called simple solution isn't so easy. Saying that there may be a case in...

What Eastern state volunteer brigades require you to pass a fitness test? What does this test involve? Thanks

Re: WAERN use

To be fair you find that sometimes radio transmitions are not picked up. The user believes the airway is clear and then talks, only to find out later on that they are talking over another unit. I have witnesed this on numerous occasions. Also you often get people pressing the PTT button at the same ...

Re: Helitak Thread

I'll double check, but I thought i remember reading an internal document stating it actually had a 7500 tank fitted to it. The aircranes can be fitted with a 9000l or a 7500l tank. The aircranes are promoted as having the ability to deliver upto 9000l, which is true (and is what FESA would promote, ...

Re: Helitak Thread

Not necessary. They have been used over east in scenarios you have just described. They can drop water close to houses, and have done so many times before. With crews working near the fire, procedures for the aircrane are no different than fixed wing or helitaks. You recieve a 1 minute inbound and y...

Re: Private Vehicles

Unfortunately I have witnessed this happen a few times before. There may even be photos still around of one well known person in the southern suburbs who's private vehicle you could easily be mistaken as a fire brigade vehicle. I was talking to the police one night regarding this situation. They inf...

Re: General fire discussions

Read it correctly. DEC to loose "EMERGENCY" responsibility. Not the whole thing. Ie you will tend to see FESA run more incidents initially with the help of DEC. example, a FESA DM/CFM arrives and due to lack of FESA resources he calls on DEC and I guess that is how the show will roll. The...

Re: General fire discussions

Ford Trader were used as light pumpers (refered to as Type 2 pumpers), similiar to the Mazda in WA. As I said there are some exemptions and this is one. There were a couple of these still in use in small country towns. In regards to tankers you would be very hard pressed to find one that has done mo...

Re: Significant bush fires 2011/12

@ Philby, CFA had 30yr old tankers heading out to fires, most probably still do around that age. Its still an appliance, still does the job, has the gear and more importantly has got the experiance of crew to take it on. Just have to say good on them! Perhaps FESA may give them a better appliance. ...
