Re: W.A Fire Appliances
They are awesome machines that are very capable off road. there is no need for a crew of more than 2 on them. with the work platform and the monitor they are great at dealing with running fire and 2 hose reels on the back allow both operators to blacken out together. it has a drum off 5x40mm lay fla...

Re: Bassendean/Guildford VFRS
Think of it like the defence forces. Army, Navy, Airforce. they all love to talk BS about each other and think that their own core/unit is the best but at the end of the day when the jobs on thats what matters and they work together and support each other. Ill happily work along side red, white, blu...

Re: PUMP OPERATION
Totally agree. They aren't all to hard once you get the hang of them but they are pretty different especially with the 3:1 to induce foam (new pumps use inline inductors but the older style still require 3:1), reflief valves and raphael valves. have a look through the manual but you may not totally ...

Re: Bassendean/Guildford VFRS
Basso trains or at least gets together every monday night for maintenence work. its a pretty young crew down there atm, but they are a good group of guys and girls. The politics refered to by some on here are more in relation to things above the concern of the fire fighting group so dont be put off ...

Re: General fire discussions
i think the way legislation states it a police vehicle is always an emergency vehicle where as a fire truck is only an emergency vehicle when its responding to an incident where life is reasonably considered to be in danger. therefore they cant just flick on the lights and cruise around on public ro...

Re: Main Roads Highway Emergency Response Ops to have Priori
can someone explain what are the conditions that allow the various "priority" codes and what is allowed under each level in relation to driving. coming from an FRS back ground there is only really normal road and emergency conditions and no half measures except at the drivers or officers d...

Re: General fire discussions
dead right. coming from a VFRS back ground we wouldn't mobalise to an incident as a primary responder unless there was an officer present (Officer being captian, Leiutenant or Apps officer). For a back up incident we would turn out with a min of at least 1 senior member in each appliance (we had nom...

Re: General fire discussions
Although the 2.4 is a stand alone appliance it does not have an SO and it is part of the fire and rescue services duty of care to the public and its fire fighters that an officer attends every incident. no matter the size of the incident. if something were to go wrong or the firies didn't notice som...

all fire stations have a pillar fire hydrant out the back which they use to fill up the vehicles and run training and im under the impression that this is not metered.

New series 3 HP and series 5 MP have a 310hp 9L, 5 cylinder turbo engine.
the series 4 medium pump has a turbo charged 8 or 6 cylinder im not sure which and is around a 9L as well. doesn't take all that long to get to 130km/h and thats as far as the speedo goes!

Re: preparing for Career FRS
being a vollie means its easy to practice the physical tests at your own station it gives you good info to talk about in the interview but thats it. you will find your experience as a vollie a big asset when you get in the school though. but keep it to yourself. any sort of community service is rega...
