Re: Interference on signal
Listen to the news on 70cm tonight. Are you using the X-50 to listen to CB or a different antenna? Do you have solar PV and if so, did you isolate that as well? FWIW I can't use HF or 6M due to noise from neighbours solar although it doesn't seem to affect VHF or UHF significantly. We also got PV re...

Re: Which scanner should I use ...?
I believe that I can build a mini-itx car PC for around the $500 mark I built a mini-itx home PC for x-mas for $240 not counting the kb with touchpad (connects to the big-screen TV). That box would be overkill for a car PC but would do the job. It can run from a laptop car charger. Lots of cheap to...

FlightRadar24 also block aircraft at the operator's request. I know they block aircraft for some wealthy Western Australians (mine magnates, Crown Casino etc).
You can still see the aircraft if you run your own receiver and decoder (pretty cheap and easy)

Re: What antenna connection standard is this?
SMA . Some radios have a female SMA connector and male antenna and others have the opposite. Most of the cheap Chinese radios have the opposite to the picture. My Yaesu VX-3R has the same as the image and I think several other Yaesus are the same. Wifi uses "RP-SMA" which has the same dim...

Audacity is awesome. If you install FFMPeg as well, there isn't much it won't do. And it's available for OSX and Linux as well.

Re: Triple J radio
I meant to reply to this one ages ago (12 months!) The antenna array for JJJ/Classic FM was hit by lightning and it took out some elements (and some other stuff that got fixed) AFAIK the antenna is still damaged. With the current state of affairs with ABC, they'll probably have to fire someone to ra...

Re: Ultra-cheap dual band vehicle radios
Been hoping somebody would fill the gap for small 10-20w radios. Judging by the photos of one in pieces, there's probably room inside for an OpenTracker 3 mini
Anybody dealt with Ali Express? None of the places I usually buy from have this one yet.

Have you done a search on your requested callsign? If it's there and they are your details then you're ready to rock.

Re: 11m Dipole contruction issues
Dipoles need to be up in the air when you test them. That is probably having the most effect in your test. Try to get it at least 1/2 wavelength up. Preferably more A dipole is a balanced antenna where-as coax and the radio are unbalanced so you should use a balun (you can make a simple choke balun ...

Re: 27MHz CB
Just a question, though. Do we just create our own callsigns? What is the go? Sort of. You can look up if a callsign is available and pay extra for it. WA foundation callsigns are VK6Fxyz where xyz is your unique part (letters). Or you can just take what you get for the standard fee, then wait unti...
