Re: Waccom UV5r opinions?

How about this (from the same shop) ? Did I miss anything in there that's not legal ? http://www.409shop.com/409shop_product.php?id=102826 Ron, that's not a CB. Have a closer look at the image. It's a Feidaxin FD-450A just like this one . It has just been pre-programmed. It's just like all the othe...

Re: Waccom UV5r opinions?

This radio is not authorised as a CB in Australia. No amount of programming or wand-waving will change that. I also disagree with the first line of your first post.

This is not a CB. It is not legal to use it on CB frequencies.

Re: News: Firefighting equipment lacking: Report

I read an article where tactical forces prefer to use UHF when they are clearing buildings because the signal punches through walls better. I'm wondering if smoke and vapour might be much the same.

I don't believe that radio is capable of CTCSS. It's not in the spec sheet I have.

Re: News: Firefighting equipment lacking: Report

The VHF radios around one fifty/one sixty MHz are having this problem? Do the 78MHz radios do better under the same conditions?

Re: News: Firefighting equipment lacking: Report

Any idea why the new radios systems are affected by smoke and water vapour but not the old systems? Does it get into the radios?

Re: UHF CB DX

I stopped at Cocklebiddy on the Nullarbor one summer evening. I couldn't find a spot on the FM band that was empty. Some frequencies had multiple stations. Cocklebiddy is about 1100 km from Perth! I reckon I was receiving every Perth and regional station for 1500 km away. The next morning there was ...

Re: UHF CB DX

It's duct season again. Check this out why it happens
I had a convo with someone in Northampton about 480 km away on 146.675 MHz. Normally I would get 25-40 km.
The same effect can be seen on TV and FM broadcast as well.
