Mine had a small connector that did not accept the full TV PAL connector. No need to solder anything if that is the case.Bonez wrote:
What did you need to solder? My USB dongle has a full sized TV antenna RF connector, so I could buy something like this and simply plug it straight in.

Re: ACMA: Using unlicensed radios a costly exercise
Indeed. But customs should hold it until the ACMA tells them that the person who ordered the item is a licensed operator.

Re: RTLSDR Dongle
Just buy a cheap $10 antenna like the one in my picture. It picks up everything from 88 to 800 or so Mhz, so for $10, you have a good setup.
You'll need a soldering iron and electrical tape for the inner core, and then use foil to keep the shield intact over the soldered area.

... often not realising they have transmit capabilities as well as receive. Or if they do know the difference, they don't think it matters... It's actually quite a scary prospect. $40 and you have a device capable of blocking off emergency services' comms.. It's a huge problem. I really hope the AC...

Wow. I am more and more annoyed by people using the wrong gear on the wrong frequencies.
It seems so irresponsible.

RTLSDR Dongle
This is an RTLSDR dongle. It's a cheap USB DVB-T adaptor. Community Subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/RTLSDR/ However, it is capable of far more than TV! It can scan from 77MHz to 1.7GHz! Load up the right software (works best in Linux or Mac), and you can scan everything! For $15! http://i.imgur.c...

Yep! Good workmanship by the looks of things. I'll update when I get it in the next week or so. (Hopefully before Christmas, going down south so I want good comms.)

I'm enquiring about that mobileone with mobileone.
I'll just buy it straight from him.
I have heard good things about his handmade units, and I like supporting aussie businesses.

Re: Antenna help needed
I would look around at other alternatives if possible, buy something in Australia that is designed for UHF CB if you can. Sadly, I have no transport other than public transport. Are there any comms shops in the city? I looked for a while, but couldn't find it. Thanks. EDIT! I found a good unit at: ...

Re: Antenna help needed
Okay, replying to my own post. I have decided to order two antennas: One - Flexible compact for everyday use Two, longer, higher gain unit for distance Will these both work for UHF CB? I'm 99% certain it will. They both work on the 476 and 477 MHz bands used for UHF CB It has the right connection fo...
