Re: Perth Arena
I'm going to get a lot of surplus gear that can support it. Warsug is always open for generous donations! hehe. I haven't played much with decoding P25 and DMR with dongles... Are any folks who have done this interested in writing a how-to? I'll find a link to an article/how to. There is plenty of ...

Re: Perth Arena
Thanks mate. A DMR and P25 scanner is on my purchase list. This information will be brilliant for the future. FYI, there is no DMR conventional scanner on the market, you can use a cheap dongle or save for a good commercial interface. they all do just as good as each other for most monitoring. Ther...

Re: Perth Arena
Roland, the system is Motorola Capacity Plus running 5 TX/RX freq pairs. As the system is Mototrbo you will need to use equipment that can receive DMR. FYI, The repeater "booms" out and can be heard quite a distance from the stadium. Portable RID's start with 61XXX and base/fixed units are...

Re: WA SES
Pirates are not usually the problem when monitoring. it's other licenced users along with harminics and the noise floor which make receiving near impossible at times.matth2004 wrote:Yep no CTCSS required for listening. Shouldn't be any pirates on those freqs transmitting without a tone.

Re: ACMA investigation leads to destruction of radios and fi
Sad to see the ACMA be so gutless. This fellow needs a lesson taught, and so do many other abusers of the spectrum. I don't think that this is a fair comment. The ACMA are not gutless at all and have many prosecutions that are suppressed so never get out to the public. I can't comment on further ma...

Re: ACMA investigation leads to destruction of radios and fi
doing this for 15+ years without any real ACMA action They're a lot more leniant than I thought they were. I thought first offence, sure a stern warning, but second offence reported = feds at your doorstep with an inspector and confiscation of gear. Isn't it an arrestable offence as well because it...

Re: ACMA investigation leads to destruction of radios and fi
I find it odd how he kept doing it after being issued a warning. What that article is not mentioning is that the person has been doing this for 15+ years without any real ACMA action. He was issued with notices several times over that period for interference caused to other commercial users with th...

Re: External Antenna Advice Needed
If possible, assuming you mount the aerial on the gutter, drill a small hole under the eaves of the house, route the cable through the wall cavity and bring it out through a blank plate, like those used to blank off power point and light terminations. Saves on plastering. The down side, the cable m...

Re: New police bikes
I saw one of these bikes this morning in Bentley, he was stopped right at the front of the lights and you could see him moving his head around the place trying to see if anyone was on their phones. Good to see them out and about, a few more would be nice! I see the bike team on the road nearly ever...

Re: DFES scanning
Raptor, whilst they don't actively check every purchase of equipment, the ACMA can and do fine and confiscate for possessing equipment capable of TX outside your license. Having an AR license in this case would only condemn you further with them as you would be considered to be well aware that you ...

Re: DFES scanning
You could pop onto one of the foundation courses and get your license, then you shouldn't have an issue with owning one of those radios (while licensed). Right on the money Matt and exactly what I suggest, takes a couple days to get your ham ticket. Meg, there are many ways to skin a cat, I have se...

Just buy a decent quality commercial portable and program in the frequencies as RX only. VHF and UHF is all you need, beats the audio quality of a scanner any day....

Re: WAPOL Encryption Cipher
IIRC, the AES-256 is only the encryption standard used when starting and ending the transmission, the voice data is something less secure. I may be very wrong though. Yes, you are very wrong as you predicted. AES-256 is used for the entire voice transmission from start to end. If a less secure form...
