Have you tried 465.675 or 466.600? I've got them listed but I don't know if they're the patrol frequencies.

Yep, I'd say you're spot-on.

Their short title is 'Army Bomb Squad' but they refer to their work as 'unexploded ordnance'. When some digs up an exploded mortar shell in their backyard, they're the guys who'll come and assess it (and remove it!).

I've just been listening to Captain Paul on 850.600 (thanks for the info!): it's best to set your scanner to 'wideband FM' if it has it for this particular frequency.

'NAMBU' is an IFR (instrument flight rules) waypoint, located at S 30 41.1, E 115 26.8. If you drove to this location, there'd be nothing to see because IFR waypoints are typically points that are used for aircraft navigation and route reporting, and given meaningless five-letter names like AVKAN, M...

Listen on 489.225: this is the surf life saving frequency. The aircraft has this on board, and there's also a set with this frequency at the water police HQ. Typically, the aircraft will communicate routinely with water police on this frequency. A slightly unusual arrangement, but it seems to work.

TM-101: the mounted section's Toyota Landcruiser. As far as I know, the horses don't have callsigns branded on their rumps!

It was widely reported over the weekend, especially in Melbourne. The Seven Network has about 11 episodes in the can that they'll screen this year, then 'that's it'.

Yes, the term 'mike bike' is a holdover from the 'old days' when all the motorbikes had callsigns commencing with 'M' followed by one, two or possibly three digits. I've seen 'TE' motorbikes placarded, of course the stickers are smaller than those used on the cars. If you look at any police motorbik...

Yep, know them: Secureforce, the Transperth-contracted security company. They have absolutely no authority to do anything other than follow the same traffic regulations as everyone else.

Well it's so long since I got it can't remember! Have a look at the ZCG-Scalar and Benelec websites: they both have a stainless steel VHF low band whip at about 1m or so with a 'standard' 5/16" 26TPI mount. Should cost no more than $20 as they're of very basic construction. Get a good quality '...

Look for my post elsewhere about using a 90cm high steel VHF whip.

I have used every kind of antenna on my vehicle - including the Bandspanner - but the 90cm whip has given the best performance.

This happened to me last night: I was able to hear VKI on channel 25 talking to a country unit (don't know if it was a vehicle or a station) and I was only able to hear VKI and not the responding unit. It may be because during quiet periods, a number of country channels with links back to VKI are co...
