What sort of antenna are you using? Generally balanced (especially if you have a balun installed) or loop antenna produce much less electrical noise pick up. If you are using an Automatic Antenna tuner try a closed loop between the Ground and active antenna point. From my experience an unbalanced an...

Re: HF Weather Fax
Setting up the sound card straightens up the fax nicely. I use multipsk for all the digital modes successfully and setting up the sound card was dead easy. It has a nice graph that makes selecting the frequency easy as well

To get the east coast channels you need a pirate card not an Aurora as they will only enable the West Australian channels from a WA address.

Re: FESA frequencies
The old midband radio network will stay in operation for as long as the shires maintain the repeaters. Once the WAERN is rolled out FESA will no longer service the old gear. Some shires have already express interest in continued use.

Re: Mobile setup
If you are diligent you can find bargain 9350 Codan antennae. I have bought two for less than $400 each. If a faulty one appears cheaply, they are worth the risk as most faults are easily repairable by your average handyman. Most faults are mechanical with the common faults being a split coupler and...

Re: Mobile setup
The Codan 9350 antenna works extremely well with the IC-706 series of radio's. It only take a couple of components to make up the patch lead. You can either use the tune button or go into the menu and set it to ptt tune and it will work automatically.

Another Epirb search underway off Bunbury ATM. 1 Nm off Mangles. Police have beacons operating off the beach hoping they will acknowledge with a flare to guide Bunbury Sea Rescue boat on route. 243 mhz second harmonic of 121.5 and a weaker signal. Usually used when searchers get closer to the scene
