Re: Significant bush fires 2014/15

Like all of the big incidents comms is the weakest link. In this case having the Incident Command Centre some distance from the Forward Control Point doesn't help as you have appliances arriving at the FCP that aren't logged onto the incident battle board at the ICC. Given the number of appliances a...

Re: Major structure fires (3rd alarm+) 2013/14

It's very unusual to transmit on 6AR during a drill, me thinks someone forgot to change the transmit from ch55 mid band to a simplex channel. Using a ladder during a foam incident would be very unusual as well. I reckon more of a comms drill than a practical drill as these aren't usually carried out...

Re: Helitak Thread

Helitak- it will give the GC a chance to hone their skills as in the past the on board SO or Air Attack Supervisors have tended to run the show with minimal input from GC's. I predict a bit of chaos early in the season as we all get used to the different machines and in particular the pilots. Good t...

Re: Hakea prison fire.

In my experience the vhf high band h/helds dont work well inside structures and arent meant to be used as such- Ch 96 would've been a sector or command channel used as an working alternative to vhf h/band. FRS2 is only a chat channel, although is sometimes used for BA comms, technically at a job lik...

Re: General fire discussions

Confirmed Maddington has a new 3.4 for summer. Hope Valley's should be ready soon, they're doing quals this week.
My understanding is Ellenbrook will man a 2nd LT for awhile yet.

Re: "Kewdale 2nd"

Haha, 6AR just recieved a message from "Kewdale 2nd". Comms asked caller to repeat call sign... again "Kewdale 2nd". Comms says she has no record of a Kewdale 2nd brigade. Caller replies "Welshpool 2nd". Kewdale 2nd is a fictional call-sign used at the training centre ...

Re: FESA frequencies

Sure it wasnt FRS UHF 2, thats the standard channel for BA and structure fire comms between crews, its also used as a chat channel between appliances

Re: General fire discussions

That is a great vid, very good operators. From the sitrep given by the firey when the pump arrives to the way the guys went about the rescue and the speed CPR was commenced tells me these guys are well drilled and come from a busy station. Sadly, I'd be surprised if the casualty survived going on th...

Re: W.A Fire Appliances

Maddington has the GPA for this summer whilst the new 2.4's are being built, Hope Valley also has one. Ellenbrook was supposed to have one but has a 2nd LT.

One of the old Series 3 MP's at W'pool was trialling a gantry to house the long ext ladders.

Re: W.A Fire Appliances

i reckon the FRS hino and vollie Isuzu's can deal with pretty much anything thrown at them, its more down to driver training and experience than anything. Even the old series 1 HSR's back in commission this summer are more than capable. I think the current 2.4s have a good weight/water capacity/4wd ...

Re: Other incidents/minor fires etc - 2011/2012

An FRS pump will always contact 6AR via radio when mobile to standby at another station- any message recieved via MDT needs to be acknowledged via radio.

Jem- its a WAERN metro north comms plan, all appliances carry a folder which explains what channels/bands should be used by crews, sector commanders, IC etc.

Re: Bassendean/Guildford VFRS

This has been interesting to read. From my experience, firstly as a bush volly and now lucky enough to get paid to do the job I reckon Acide is better off with a BFB. More chance of seeing some action, sure the VFRS guys are busy over summer, but as far as I'm aware the ComCen turnout matrix doesn't...
