Re: New YPPH LiveATC build
Sounds like a really cool project numloxx, would be interested in seeing photos once the build is complete. I've never dived into the world of Pi's but I am seriously considering it after reading a few different things online recently. I've got a HTPC that runs VMware Workstation with a couple of Li...

Re: Underground busport
Interesting listening tonight, buses calling Bus port Control on normal channels, only one sided conversations I'm guessing persons at the bus port were transmitting on talk around/simplex. Made the dispatchers job a lot harder hearing these calls on the same channel. What frequency were you hearin...

Re: Multiple Scanners sharing 1 antenna
It should be fine to add more receivers, but if it were me I would think about upgrading that RG58 to RG213 if you have the opportunity to do so. You'll naturally get a bit of loss through the additional connectors and patch cables needed to connect those additional receivers, so with better quality...

Re: New police bikes
I saw one of these bikes this morning in Bentley, he was stopped right at the front of the lights and you could see him moving his head around the place trying to see if anyone was on their phones.
Good to see them out and about, a few more would be nice!

Re: RTLSDR Dongle
Just buy a cheap $10 antenna like the one in my picture. It picks up everything from 88 to 800 or so Mhz, so for $10, you have a good setup. You'll need a soldering iron and electrical tape for the inner core, and then use foil to keep the shield intact over the soldered area. What did you need to ...

Re: RTLSDR Dongle
I've got one of these dongles plugged into my HTPC and connected to our TV antenna on the roof. I have tried monitoring ADS-B signals, but the TV antenna isn't so good for that. In the 30 minutes or so I was tuned to the frequency it only detected 1 aircraft, whereas there were lots around the place...

Re: Antenna help needed
Both of those antennas are 400-470Mhz, UHF CB is 476-477Mhz, so technically they are out of band. They will still work, but long term heavy use could do damage to the radio, and at the same time they won't work as good as an antenna tuned for 476-477Mhz. I would look around at other alternatives if ...

Hi Robert,
Not sure if you are aware, but this is a Western Australian forum (not Washington) so I'm not sure if you'll have any luck selling your radios here!

Re: News: Insecure police radios at centre of Victorian elec
Interesting read. I do find it very hard to believe that they could replace the current analog network for $10 million... When government's put things to tender the prices get jacked right up compared to if it was a private sector company needing new radio equipment.
