Re: PlanePlotter
oh Ok. I am assuming you are just using the 21 day trial period at the moment. When registered clicking the MAP button downloads google maps which can then be saved in 10 quick chart locations behind icons on the icon bar at the top of screen. At the time of writing this there were no flights showin...

Re: PlanePlotter
Hi Rob, I use PlanePlotter but I don't have any special chart for the Perth area. What's wrong with those provided by the program?

Tree fire in Yanchep
Today when the storm rolled on through, lightning struck close to home, about 200 metres from home actually. The tree was smouldering because of the storm. It made me jump and move real fast to disconnct things and turn off appliances. My PC locked up when the lightning stuck and oh what a noise it ...

For those who have not seen it, and are interested, here is a bad phone camera image taken yesterday of VK6BBS on the left and VK6RIB in the rack on the right.

Re: Satellite Antennas
I have used it handheld to catch someone on a repeater i could not get too well on my ht. I have also taken it to Augusta and not surprisingly copied the Bunbury, Mt Barker and Esperance beacons. The antenna showed directivity and gain. If planning to use outside for periods, the duplexer is inside ...

Re: Advanced Licence
If you are looking at the same eBay listing with bdrouch as the seller then they are the real deal. He is an Arrow Dealer in the USA and runs this website http://www.ham4less.com/ I first bought my Arrow a few years ago. Then last year I wanted the roll up carry bag so as I was getting the bag a mat...

Re: Advanced Licence
If you get an Arrow Antenna, I would suggest getting a split boom, with duplexer. They are available cheaper with single boom and without duplexer but advantageous to have the split and built in duplexer. You can get them on eBay. I have bought 2 over the past couple of years for me and a friend. A n...

Car Fire in Rockingham 11/08/2011
I was in Rockingham today. As I came out of the Rockingham City Shopping Centre I saw smoke. While I was on the road I saw the big red truck and the little red truck in a hurry. A few minutes later I passed the area and took this.

Re: Listening to Amateur Radio using Sangean ATS-909
Now I understand why I couldn't quite hear what the other guy (VK6FGL) said because he was further away from where I was listening to I know both VK6ATI and VK6FGL. They live about 2 kilometres from each other, if that. Frank's antenna does not perform as well as the antenna Tony uses. Frank has to...

Review - Funcube Dongle
What is a FunCube and what is it's Dongle? A Funcube is a satellite being developed by AMSAT UK as a Radio Educational Satellite. The idea, I gather, is for schools to take an active interest in the satellite. The Dongle is a Software Defined Radio (SDR) that was developed as a simple radio in whic...

Re: APRS - part two
Update: I received a reply from VK6KCH. He does not know why VK6KSB-3 went off air. He has never been to the site. Apparently the antenna there was 4 phased dipoles and it was a location with excellent coverage. Will certainly be a great pity if its gone for good. As for the digipeater in Bunbury, i...

Re: APRS - part two
Pinjarra going off air has left a huge hole from Rockingham to Bunbury Anybody know what happened to it? I was going to email Chris VK6KCH about the VK6KCH-3 digipeater in Bunbury to ask if it could be configured to digipeat as it appears not to at the moment. So a couple of days ago I obtained an ...

Re: APRS - part two
I think I also heard they are putting up a digipeater too. Now we just need the Bunbury guys to install one at 6RBY 8) There is little interest in APRS at the moment in Bunbury. There is a digipeater in Bunbury but it does not communicate with the network. I can digipeat to VK6KSB if I do it manual...

Re: APRS - spy on me while I drive
Is VK6KCH still Bunbury ? if it can be configured to talk to KSB-3 it would have a full time net gateway. Cheers Yes it is still in Bunbury. Well VK6KCH-3 is still in Bunbury. Don't know if VK6KCH is. I don't think it is set up as a digipeater as I have not been able to use it as a digi. It signs w...

Re: APRS - spy on me while I drive
Good to see a bit of APRS activity starting up in Bunbury. 8) Yes good to see VK6KCH-3 digipeater on air from Bunbury and VK6ADF-9 driving around. I don't expect there will be too much activity from down around Bunbury. Does not really seem to be much activity of any description. I have dabbled wit...
