Scanner Guides
This is probably the best topic to mention this in as well. As well as using a CD Rom, or an online scanner guide to find frequencies, one of the best ways to find a frequency is to get out there amongst the radios and have a look around. Learn what different sized antennas mean for different freque...

Trunking
A big thanks to Grant for all of this hard work. Grant and I started trunk tracking at about the same time, and while I had a bit of a heads up at the time as I had been working with trunking for a number of years before hand, it didn't take Grant long to catch on and start compiling massive lists o...

Mark, It all depends what sort of drumming noise it is. An annoying reply I know, but drumming can mean anything. Have a listen to the Motorola and MPT sounds on this page (nearer to the bottom) http://www.kb9ukd.com/digital/ and see if it sounds like any of them. Or take a recording of the sound an...

Metal Antenna
By the nature of what an antenna does it is usually made of metal. A radio wave is just an electric pulse and threfore needs a good conductor to be carried. Good conductors are metals and water and various other things. Submarines often trail a line (metal) in water, for long distance VLHF comms. Wh...

If you want to know what sort of sound you are hearing on a frequency, use this website to help you out. Down towards the bottom are all the Motorola stuff. Just under that is EFJ LTR for the LTR sounds. Under that again is the MPT sounds.

400 MHz trunking in Perth
Hi Mark, Have you scanned these frequencies and looked for any data channels? The Telstra ones will be MPT trunking as that is the only type of trunking they dabble in. The others are a little hard to tell without knowing the licensee of the frequency. Have a scan around these and make a note of wha...

Scanning Inside Buildings
One of the things you will also find with scanning inside a building is the fact that because there is so much concrete and metal and other communications (data in cable etc.) floating around you that even though you might be next to a window and it helps reception a bit, the tower you might want to...

Trunking in Perth
Hi All, Off the top of my head I can't help out with a lot of specifics but I will try and fill in as many gaps as possible. While Perth doesn't have as much trunking as some of the other Capital cities (Melbourne is at the top of the chart, with Sydney, then Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, the...

Frequency Guides
When it comes to frequency guides if you buy a printed book there is bound to be a lot of information that is out of date by the time it hits the shelves. This is simply because it takes so long to get data off a CD, modify it, put it in a printable format, send it off to the publishers and then dis...

Hi all, I'm Brian a new member here. I have just had a quick flip through some topics before joinging and I might have a bit to say here over the next few days. Definately some interesting topics. In relation to the Uniden UBCD396T Digital Scanner I am not sure if it is actually released just yet, h...
