I'm John and I am a new scanning enthusiast in the Joondalup area. I purchased a Uniden UBCD396XT primarily to listen to aircraft, however I have yet to hear anything on the scanner of interest.
I read that these scanners are complex in nature, however I thought I could master it. Is there anyone out there that could direct me to someone who could help me to use the device or somewhere where I could go to learn.
Thank you
Help!!

Hi John,
Have a read through this: http://warsug.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8974
Now you can either manually punch in some stuff (which may or may not shorten your lifespan by about a week) or use a PC and the program freescan to do it IF you have the PC data cable?

Re: Help!!
Thank you Yorkie
I did have a read and I understand all the different frequencies, its the device and how it searches for the frequencies I want and not the ones that come pre-loaded.
I have ordered a usb data cable and downloaded the software, so hopefully it will enable me to listen to something.
Would I expect to hear Perth tower communications from here in Joondalup
Cheers

Re: Help!!
Unless you are in a really high place, you most likely won't hear the tower, and maybe only the aircraft whilst in the air.
But yes the PC programing makes that unit much easier to use, it would take hours to enter in manually and you want to bugger off a lot of the default channel lists that are useless to us here (but you can download from the scanner first then save the config just in case, then delete/play with it).

Cheers

Re: Help!!
From memory either Auto or NFM which I think is narrow band.

Re: Help!!
Help! A friend and I bought a Uniden UBCD396XT each over a year ago and we still can't get them to work. If someone is willing to program it for us for our area, or run through how to program it, and give us some advice and recommend what other things we might need to get it to work better, would be much appreciated. It's been frustrating trying to figure it out.. I'm new to all this. I'll pay cash for help. I live in Bunbury but will drive basically anywhere to get this sorted out. If you can help please let me know by sending me an email to: steve_1234@live.com.au. Cheers.
Re: Help!!
Which services are you looking to hear? I'm not sure of the Bunbury area.
